Hard to be sympathetic to the guy when he could have had a great normal laptop for $399. Darwin candidate.

A good friend of mine is a Mac specialist and I never pass up an opportunity to give him a hard time. Our Mac users are prima donnas of the highest order.

We were talking about it one day and he mentioned that you don't see too many viruses hitting Macs. I told him of course not. It's like hitting a girl.

If you search the web for coupons for the retailer, or manufaturer of the item you want to buy, you can save a lot. I love those 20% off coupons that include free shipping. When shopping in grocery stores, look for coupons on Coke/Pepsi/7up. A lot of stores will double coupons, and have the item on sale too. The end of Febuary, I was in a Grocery store with Pepsi's Life Water normally $149, on sale for 10 for 10, plus 50 cent off coupons. The store doubled coupons. I bought 63 bottles, and it dod not cost me even a penny. I saved $93.87. What a deal.
A local steak house had a $25 off coupon online. I took the wife out to dinner there, and it cost us $5.00 plus tip. Cheep night out at a high classed restaurant. In this economy always look for the deals.
If you or someone you know has student loans, Upromise pays $$$ on your student loans every time you use your card. All you have to do is register your card for them to track the purchases. With the fuel bill of an over the road trucker, you kids could have a large portion of their student loans payed off, and it does not cost you a cent.

    Here's a hands-down winner for tech-savy shopping.

I have a Garmin StreetPilot 7200. Two years ago I paid $1,000 which was the sale price. It was discounted $200 from it's retail price of $1,200. I have followed it's progressive drop in price. I've seen it for anywhere from $650-$850. But, today I saw it on-line listed for $1,400 REDUCED from $1,650. Now, I'd love to run with that figure, because my unit would have appreciated rather than depreciated. But the lesson is, obviously, there are going to be people who are shopping for a 7200 who are going to pay that inflated price, due to a failure to follow rookietrucker's advice. Buyer Beware!

Well, I hate to say it, I'm not a Mac guy, mostly because I don't have $900, much less $1800 to burn on a laptop. I got mine brand new with warranty for $600.00 from Dell and my wife still wanted to wring my neck for that. But, that $1800 Macbook Pro will dual boot into Windows and when it does, it's one of the best gaming rigs out there. It's got more than enough hardware to run any windows game you throw at it.

Just a few days ago, TigerDirect was selling Factory Refurb. DELL XPS laptops (DELLs top-of-the-line) for $699, about 49% of the regular price. I didn't need a new laptop, but IF I did, I would have jumped on it.

I recently bought a Canon HD video camera and after struggling with two VERY GOOD PCs, (processing time for large video files) I priced a MAC at $4300 for what I needed, $2800 for a comparable DELL, and built the same machine with a BARE-BONES kit from TigerDirect for less than $800, plus I threw in an extra $199 and got a ginormous 27in diag LCD flat-screen monitor. Not bad.....$1000 for what would cost me between $3000 and $4500.
