What are the odds on this accident?

Perhaps, but things happen. Things break. These roads coming apart can wreak havoc and test all components on a truck. Axles and hubs can break, and there is no pre-trip inspection in the world that is going to somehow reveal in the crystal ball that it is going to break in 3 hours.

There's just too many possibilities to make any assumptions in such a case.

 

Understood. Everything made by man will eventually fall apart. Now tell that to a jury of twelve.

 

That's pretty horrible. I never had a tire come off but I had an inside driver rim come apart on me at 60 mph. By the time I got it stopped here's some pictures of it what was left there was pieces of rim everywhere.

 

I guess when it's your time to go ... it's your time to go.

DANA Transport???? They haul almost exclusive hazmat. But they do have mostly if not all owner-ops and frankly, I've seen a lot of crappy looking older trucks with DANA on the door. Maybe they will have to reevaluate their hiring standards and demand more and scrutinize maintenance records from their owner ops. Some mechanic somewhere is going to have some explaining to do but there's no telling how long ago the axles were pulled from that rig. I guess this came off the [rented] trailer?

But how many users here run their mouth to us all the time .... "this would have been prevented with a good and proper pretrip inspection"
