First let me give you my opinion of USA Truck:

I dont really think the company is all that bad especially after reading some of the posts about some of the larger companies. But one of my issues is of course the speed of the truck! Its not a problem for some drivers but for me its torcher! See, my hobby is drag racing so I have a heavy foot and this is totally ridiculous how slow this truck is to me.
For example: I was cruising along and I got passed (as usual) by an oversized load. i mean this was a huge thingamajig. As i watched it roll off into the sunset, later on down the road i looked over at the truck stop i was passing and saw it pulling in. Needless to say, about an hour later, that same freakin truck passed me again!!!:biggrin_2555:
Thats when i really knew! :biggrin_25513:I read posts about JB Hunt being too slow because they are governed at 62; that's bullsh!t, if they are at 62mph then we must be at 62KILOMETERS because i get passed by them all day everyday!
These companies are not concerned about the drivers at all. They just want to save a buck by turning the trucks down. They dont consider all the man hours we have to spend behind the wheel because we are governed. We have to spend at least an extra 10-15 hours a week driving compared to the faster trucks which results in Driver Fatigue, Sleepiness, Late Loads, and so on.

Thanks for letting me vent, and now the Advice:

Start with the company and build up your experience. Drive as safe as you can and try to avoid and accidents/incidents while doing so. Protect your CDL!!! Even when you are off. This is a Break-In Company, always remember that! any body that stays longer than a year should be kicked in the butt. This industry is full of Settlers: people that think it doesnt get any better than they have it now. Well i'm tell you it does! Please dont become one of these people. Actually 3 months is sometimes good enough to land the type of job i'm about to tell you about.

Hate sleeping at truck stops? Using public toilets that u could catch crabs from?:biggrin_2554: Want to be home EVERYDAY? and last but not least, WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY???

THEN GO WORK FOR AN LTL COMPANY!!!
Trust me, most start at almost $20 bucks an hour, home daily, sleep in your own bed and errthang! On your next home time, go to your DPS and add Doubles and HazMat to your license if you dont already have it, get your 3 months done and start applying! If you think i'm exaggerating drive by an ABF yard and look at the cars in the parking lot. Those guys are getting paid and sleep in their bed every night while we are driving from here to HAWAII and back to make hundreds of dollars less!
If you are reading this and you've been OTR for more than a year making pennies a mile SLAP YOURSELF!!!

I have a list off all the good companies that pay well, i'll post it later! Good luck drivers and KEEP THE RUBBER ON THE ROAD:biggrin_25525:

Great post. I haven't started yet, but will be starting training with Driver Solutions on the 7th. If all goes according to plan, this will be my "start-up" company then I'll move on. The slow truck does sound like a pain in the butt (I have a bit of a lead foot myself :biggrin_255:), but I guess I can get used to it. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I'll see you on the road real soon.

Definitely, thank you for this. I have applied at Southeastern Freight (but my app got screwed up...bummer) and will seriously look at the other companies in my area. I've been driving in the oilfield for two years and I am READY to get out of it! Thank you!

This list is useless because anyone keeping up with the industry knows most of these carriers are laying off help and cutting wages . FedEx just canceled orders for cargo jets and announced pay cuts . Yellow merged operations with Roadway , closed terminals , had layoffs and their drivers took pay cuts and made concessions with a recent contract . USF , Holland ,etc are a division of YRC and jobs aren't secure at these either . ABF announced their drivers better expect to make the same concessions YRC drivers did . We all have CB's and stop at truckstops . We know the "value" of truck stop news . Maybe people need to read a little to get reilable information . over 80,000 drivers have lost their jobs in the last few months . Do you think they'd be in unemployment lines if there were jobs at these LTL carriers ?

The USA trucks are set at 60 for the first 90 days. After 90 days they can be turned up to 63. That is of now it but seems to change.

I don't think the person that responded to the original poster saw the date he posted his info. I know when I read it the first time I read the date because I knew the was no way that would be true now.

Soooooooooo they have the trucks governed? I guess I wont have to worry about a speeding ticket then huh. I have the same ambitions, do a year and then hit the road for a position with more home time. I am not 19, and have been married for 18 years. I would kinda like to keep it that way. Can anyone give me the break down on the financing plans? Obviously it would be best to pay up front, but the no down and the $500 down are the two that make me wonder. I just bent over for uncle sam to the tune of 5K on some S*%$y investments. comming up with 4K for the tuition is going to be stretching it. :biggrin_25512:
