That’s the whole point. Oil is a finite resource. There is what there is then it’s gone, period. Why burn it in cars when it can be used for more important things, like plastics

That looks like a hipsters grocery cart. Is that the same lettuce with a touch of fecal matter Cali likes to export to the rest of the country?

I buy all that and I live in NM. Evidently, gout is making my plate much more greener.

As for the original topic at hand, CA, like many other states, had overhead wired, interurban railways delivering alot of intercity freight. Everyone wants to live in cities and be truly green, then hop on the trolley. Get goods from the trolley. No batteries needed and it could all be powered from a central power plant.

But, as much as CA likes to claim the progressive title, they're not fooling anyone when they won't ditch their individual car's. Hence all the battery powered, glorified golf carts they seem to want to keep. That, and the electric interurbans will probably clog up their path the same way trucks do. Always claiming to be nice folks, but still get angry like everyone else.

    What is PV?

Also, where I'm at in fly over country, it is against the law to be "off the grid", for that matter, it is against the law to collect rain water. Not doubting these things are coming, just will take longer than 20-30 years.

I see that the redneck trigger of using the word "California" is still completely effective.

Just from a performance standpoint electric makes much more sense. Lower center of mass, flat torque curve, very few moving parts

Yep.. but truckers in general pretend they want to (or would) drive old junky trucks from the 50's....The backlash on technology in the industry has become as common as stories about trucker strikes, federal marshals, and getting better fuel mileage at 80 mph than running a more sane speed..

Just one question. If the ice caps melt and raise the ocean level then how come all the water that dumps(rivers) in the ocean everyday around the world don’t raise them? Does it not ever rain over the oceans either? My tinfoil hat must be to tight today.

Only time will tell and I doubt very much we'll see it. I live on the water and in the last 30 yrs I've seen quite a difference in water levels. Maybe you should try copper instead of tin, it has a nicer patina.

Well what you're saying is true but the changeover is what is delicate. A lot of the economy has to do with fossil fuel in many other Industries besides oil.

Can anyone imagine if someone tries to move our country too rapidly in this direction and our economy collapses and we're entirely dependent upon China for our energy needs?

It's a complicated situation I don't know if anyone really has the answer, at least not an answer that will sustain us and keep our economy rolling and keep us from becoming a dependent satellite state of a foreign country.

It's funny though. In the sixties a person came out with a 100 mile per gallon carburetor. No computers, nothing fancy, just a simple carburetor on a regular Engine with no other modifications that would give 100 miles per gallon on every vehicle it was installed on.

Needless to say the gas and oil companies bought him out and made sure no one else could do that. They had their scientists change the formula of the gasoline so that there's nothing that you could do like that carburetor ever again.

I guess it's off the topic but could anyone imagine what kind of mileage we would get nowadays with all the improvements that have happened since the 60s? We would have big giant full-size cars getting two or three hundred miles to the gallon probably. The technology probably could have been moved over to diesel engines and oil heaters and whatever else. And they probably have an Innovations like that and other areas that the giant companies I'm sure made certain it would never happen. Fossil fuels would have such small demand they would be inexpensive and we would have hundreds of years to work on the problem.

And here we are because of greed.
