What we learned to do in Arkansas was reduce the amount of taxable income on paper. We already had income from the VA, SS etc so that did not count. Earned income did. So as long in those days we kept it around 17K we break even with no tax or very little wash of hands either way.

The new recent changes to tax law has finally as far as we are concerned tossed one of the biggest things we used in life, that's the daily perdiem backed by number of service days away from house as logged OTR times two people.

I think it is the intent of dear Uncle Sam is to bring in more revenue now. Everything is a little bit smaller as a result.
