No charges Humbolt Bus Crash !?!?!?

Here it comes.... it will be minimal I predict. They are more concerned about the guilty than justice for the victims in our courts.

 

I think I'm ok with the author's sentencing presumption, as long as it is the high end of the 2-5 year sentence. if it's 5 years, he'll do at the most two...still nothing compared to what he has to carry with him for the rest of his life. from what I've been reading, most of the families effected are quite forgiving of Jaskirat Singh. he had no intent that day of killing a busload of kids, I take some solice in the fact that he has accepted responsibility and plead guilty to all charges.

 

Of course he didn't. Nonetheless, while the result wasn't intended it was due to a deliberate action he should have known better than to take. It's a level of negligence that gets little sympathy from me.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu should not have been on the road when he caused the death of 16 people and injuries to 13 others, stated a Saskatchewan Government report filed during Singh's sentencing hearing Monday in Melfort, Sask.

"If Jaskirat Singh Sidhu had been stopped and inspected on April 6, 2018 prior to the incident, he would have been placed under a 72-hour out of service declaration … preventing him from operating a commercial vehicle," the report said.​

 

There's a note in this article stating he could be deported because he is not a citizen and he's looking at more than 6 months.

Speaking to families of the 29 people killed or injured in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu said he takes “full responsibility for what has happened.”

“It happened because of my lack of experience,” the semi driver who caused the catastrophic crash on April 6, 2018 said after sentencing arguments were made at his hearing in Melfort.

Sidhu, 30, stood in front of the wooden table where he sat for the past four days, leaning on it with balled-up fists and looking down whenever he struggled to speak.

“I can’t even imagine what you are going through, what you have been through. I’ve taken the most valuable things of your life,” he said...

...On Thursday court heard, for the first time, that Sidhu did not register the four highway signs leading up to an oversized stop sign because he was overly focused on a flapping tarp that became loose on one of his trailers.

“This was now a complete distraction to him,” lawyer Mark Brayford said, noting Sidhu stopped to fix the tarp about 15 minutes before reaching the intersection, concerned it was causing a hazard for other drivers.

While Sidhu knows his attention should have been on the road, “There was no evidence that he chose to drive through the stop sign, as shocking as it was that the signage wasn’t reacted to,” Brayford told court, adding his client beats himself up every day over why he didn’t notice the signs or stop....

 

I really, really, REALLY hope this brings about change in the Canadian trucking industry. In my short time on the road, I've noticed a stark drop in driving ability among truck drivers in Canada, especially in Ontario.

I hope Sidhu feels genuine remorse for his involvement in this horrible thing, and spends the rest of his life in India reliving what he's done to all those families, but I think the two most important things we must do as a society is bring the company's owner to justice for what he likely pushed Sidhu to do (drive illegally for the sake of profits), and the training school that got him his license should be shutdown.

There needs to be standards for training, mega carriers are putting warm bodies behind the wheel of 100,000lb killing machines, who shouldn't be there at all, because nobody actually WANTS to be a truck driver anymore but freight still needs to move.

Sidhu is responsible for the accident, but he is not to blame for it happening in the first place. The system failed him and everyone involved in the accident. And because of that, 16 lives are gone and 13 more forever changed. I hope people direct their rage and pain towards affecting change in the industry.

I expect to see something in the 3-5 years range with 8-10 years driving ban (which is a moot point because he will likely be deported after serving his sentence). Regardless of whether the Crown really expects the judge to give him 10 years, I think they had to be seen to be tough for the public's sake.

 

what do you mean he is not responsible ? he was the driver, he choose to work the schedule his boss gave him, he choose to ignore the stop sign. lack of experience argument is BS- there are hundreds of new drivers every day on the road.he is absolutely 100% responsible.
