    Hello Folks

Looking at Waze and Google Maps I get a variety of route options from Denton to Lubbock

I am looking for the "safest" as in wide highways versus two-lane country roads.

Can anyone share their experience or give some feedback

    Thank you very much

    From Danton ,Tx?
Take I20 to Sweetwater,tx extit 238A and follow US 84 West till you hit Lubbock, 90% of a time it will be 4 lane highway, only 1 city where you will need to slow down it's Post, Tx

I've only been to Tx couple times and probably looking at the same Google map as you, but my choice would be 199, 114 and 82, it's 30 miles shorter, 10 min longer.
In my consideration there would be time of day, likelihood of traffic density and the stress level I might encounter, but most importantly....., the chances of finding a Ma & Pa diner with home cooked food, which in my experience is more often away from the beaten path.

380, 114, 82 is fastest and shortest. State highways, some 4 lane, mostly 2 lane. Very little traffic, but watch for deer if traveling at night.
If your going to be a truck driver, you have to drive the 2 lanes sometime.

I live in FTW. Distance from Denton south to IH20 is the penalty for fastest road. That could a half hour or up to an hour.

So I’d base it on my equipment. Fairly light, mild weather and a truck that’s easy to slow or accelerate? Take the GPS route.

I’m heavy, its a 53’ box, it’s windy as hell and I don’t want to work so ###### hard? Interstate the whole way. Any one of those conditions is enough.

Chain truckstops are mainly on 20.

Plan your stops beforehand. Once 50-miles west of IH35 anywhere in US, population density disappears. As do services.

Open Truckers Path and set up all chain stops plus independent. Routing should be along roads with the most truck stops. From here up to Canada.

On the Plains you NEVER want a road without shoulders.

380 to Jacksboro, 114 to Seymour, 62/82 to Lubbock.

This route is the shortest mileage wise. I would not recommend it at night due to deer. I have driven it many times. The roads are no interstate big but are not horrible. Going down to 20 then at Sweetwater get on 84 will be the biggest roads but going from Denton down to 20 can be crappy traffic.

Traffic is bad southbound at IH35 right at the 820 Loop. Take it West. Thins right out.

Penalty is 1/2-1-hr at most. Which will be made up as the rest of the trip is Interstate.

My last oilfield job had their fab shop in Decatur. I would drive down from PA and take 380 from Greenville to Decatur. The growth along that route is crazy. Also the amount of traffic lights.

380 is slow alright. But the alternative thru or near downtown Dallas is worse.

The Bush Tollroad works well enough from outside IH635 when on 30. But it puts you into the worst section of IH35E-N.

IH40W from Little Rock to IH35S at OKC is how I’d do that one. A real nice new Loves practically on top of that intersection at 35 & 380.

The traffic on IH30 from Little Rock to Dallas is always heavy. Another penalty.

Plus more and better truck stop choices on the longer route. Better trip plan.

If one sticks with US-380, find the Craigslist ad for Larry’s CB Shop at McKinney. 380 & US75.

    Bring someone else’s credit card.
