Bad. Not as bad as CR England, but certainly not a top tier company.
snowmantrucking101, Veryblessed and mathematrucker Thank this. -

Is it a good company to work for on a scale from 1 to 10 what would you rate
Veryblessed Thanks this. -
If you are a marginal person... its a place to gain experience until finally crater yourself... or get enough experience to get something marginally better. If you have a decent background and do not have a lot of issues. You do not need them. It is strictly for a person who has little to no options to get into the trucking industry or for the unaware.
Veryblessed, snowmantrucking101, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Or if you have 7 years experience, but nothing current in the last 3 years and decided to get back into this industry
rickyboricky, Veryblessed and Bean Jr. Thank this. -

In all honestly, western is about middle of the pack vs other big carriers. You could do a lot worse or a lot better. They will run you pretty hard until you start running against your recaps, then you drop down to 2500 from 3200 miles a week. Most loads are 450 to 550 miles.
Van is sliding pay scale and flat is currently 40 com plus accessorials. Most van is drop and hook. Runs are all east of the mission, unless you live near CA or team. Lots of east coast.
Orientation is pretty rushed and communication is the weakest link with these guys. Once you establish a relationship and report with your dispatcher, they will work with you as long as you are prompt and know what you are doing. You have to think things through obviously.
I do my job, they run me and work with me on problems. I tell them I want to go home, they work it out. Sometimes you have to run the notorious “one more load” and often sent home under load to be swapped later.
Western has bad rep amongst drivers. But I think it’s the fact that they churn out so many noobs. Truck beaten up, dirty, clipped tandems on the trailers. Poor driving skills. All noob issues. Nice trucks goto good experienced drivers.
Talk in person to a western driver who doesn’t have a crap truck if you want an honest opinion.Veryblessed, Rocknroller4 and Bean Jr. Thank this.
