Hi everyone,
I have Detroit 12.7 that was rebuilt 3 years ago by Hamilton Freightliner. At the same time I installed BW 171702 and my injectors are 7650 x 5 and 6952 x 1. High flow mufflers were installed as well.
The engine was originally set at 500 HP but I fried that ECM by welding. Using spare one now set at 430 HP. Not nearly enough power given that I pull 5 axle end dump grossing 140000 lbs. Meeting with somebody tomorrow to reflash ECM with custom tune.
Now the question...
Can someone please tell me what camshaft is currently in my engine?
Unit number is 06R0521603
Model is 6067BK60.
I may be switching to 5915 injectors this summer (was told that will give me more power) and need to know if my camshaft is compatible with them.
Thank you for your help.

You have a 4912 cam. You can run any N2 injector with it. I certainly wouldn't put 5915s in a truck that already has 7650s in it; they're considerably smaller. If you want to upgrade, get a set of 7014s.
The 430hp setting in your ecm doesn't really mean that you're making less power than if it said 500. The engineers but a generic program into their test engines ecm, a set of 7650s (for a 500) then dyno it and fine tune that program until they have the hp/tq they're looking for. They load the same program into another engines ecm, a set of 6977s (for a 430/470) and do the same dyno/fine tuning. The ecm programs at the end look almost identical and no matter which engine you put it on, it will run pretty close to its advertised hp. In fact, if you put a 430 onto a 500, there's a chance you could get slightly more power, depending on the injectors.
When you meet with that guy, ask him if he adjusts the pulsewidth fudge factor. If he says yes, don't let him touch your ecm. Those are the guys who don't know what they're doing.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -

Benjamin thank you very much for your advise. The reason I mentioned 5915 is I read they have 15% more fuel flow and they are better than 7650. Not saying it's true. It's just what I based my question on. I'll certainly look into 7014 now.
As if the guy I'm meeting I've sent him few customers over last couple of years and they are all happy to this day. The only time I had my ECM flashed was for my previous truck anfmd it was done by Brad Wheeler. 14L, EGR and VGT delete. Run it for 300K KM before I sold it.
Since I'm not looking for anything crazy do you think I should stick with the tune or get 7014 as well?
Thank you. -
I would still be asking questions about the tune. There's way too many guys out there doing s%#¿ work that performs great right up until it doesn't. Usually by that time, no one thinks it was ecm related.
You're getting it turned up so I'd try that, see what you think of it and then you decide if you need/want more...there's always more. I've got a pre-egr 14L with a 3 stage tune, marine injectors, marine cam, high flow mufflers/manifold/air filters, compound turbo setup, etc. and a huge list of things I still want to try...there's always more lolCoffey Thanks this. -
Will try that and post whatever I find out here.
I'll have to bug you again sometime soon about your setup. Sounds sweet and depending on how things go I may be interested in trying to build something like that.Last edited: Apr 21, 2019
