The main point is if someone doesn’t like where they are in life they can change it. But too many want someone to fight with them because they’re not happy about this or that. I’ve worked hard, I’ve been patient, and now I’m doing what I’ve wanted to be doing for a long time. I’m perfectly fine with my eld, I get paid detention pay, etc. So how is it in my interest to shutdown just because other people can’t seem to make a go of it? I don’t care if eld’s stay or go because I feel they’re not going anywhere. I don’t want the government to get involved with detention pay because it will likely lower what I’m currently getting.

Everyone complains that truckers don’t have a voice, yet only about 3000 people commented about HOS reform.

So I guess to me the LCD would be the group that wants the whole industry to change to suit them just because they can’t figure out how to work in the current environment. It’s the group that says that truckers need less regulation and then turns around and says the government needs to regulate other parts of this industry.

I said from the get go that I will support anything dealing with HOS reform, but I won’t support a bunch of guys throwing a fit because they can’t cheat on their logs anymore.

Gotcha thanks for elaborating. I completely understand where u are coming from. I don’t think any shipper should get away with not paying detention regardless of rather I haul there freight or not ...how old are u fld if u don’t mind me asking ?

You guys must truck in some very good circumstances. For most people detention pay sucks and in no way compensates for the down time or lost revenue out here. It's nowhere near enough to be punitive which is what it should be.

Nothing changed out here with regards to customers wasting drivers time and it never will. I knew it wouldn't. Rate increases were marginal and look how they have you by the balls now that you have a ticking clock all the time. It will be a long time coming any improvement in rates again.

EOBR sucks and no revision of the regs are going to improve them. HOS reform will continue to have things all screwed up. Recent revisions have made things worse. You can no longer PC to your home when empty. What kind of BS is that? Just a nonsensical restriction that people in other industries dont have to put up with. I didn't support BSM they seemed like a bunch of losers that would get nowhere and do nothing so no surprise what happened there. Doesn't mean they were wrong complaining about EOBR.

People speeding everywhere to beat some ridiculous clock or sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for 2 or 8 or 10 hours break to finish. It was all the big mega companies who wanted everyone to have this level playing field nonsense and look how some of you fools just love sitting around on your break waiting for your drive time. But you do such a good job planning everything right?

Detention is only ever an issue on our outbound food grade loads. We can pretty much unload our inbound loads 24/7 as long as they have room in their tanks.

How much of where you are and what you have today is because you were able to "cheat" on your logs? If you'd obeyed the law your whole career would you be where you're at today, or would you be agreeing with those who want ELDs gone?

I cheated but nothing too crazy. The most I put on in a year with my own truck was right around 145k. I wasn’t anywhere close to being in the 200k club. I would work when it was busy and I’d go home when it wasn’t.

Most of where I’m at today came from saving money, having enough money to buy a truck and run it for a month until the money started coming in, rebuilding the truck over time, selling it, buying another one, putting work into it, and selling it. Then leaving the money sit in the bank while I worked company jobs and waited for the opportunity I was waiting for. Got the call and bought the truck I have now. So I’d say it’s probably more to do with hard work and not getting in over my head than it is cheating and running a stupid amount of miles.

Doesn't matter if it's nothing too crazy, it's still "cheating," didn't you just experience this a couple of months ago, like 8 minutes over not too crazy?
