49 Pete log load

    Yeah, if you want to haul log lengths home parbuckling (there's another word for it but if I used it I'd have to ban myself) is the way to go. Just be careful not to two-block your haul line before the log gets all the way on. Never let anybody stand behind the log when it's being pulled.
    If you get a log too big for your winch just pull one end on first, tie it off to something stout, move your rigging and pull the other end on.
    A couple of peaveys or cant hooks help too

    I have in my closet a old time Peavy. A 5 foot bar 3 inches thick, solid it has a spike on the bottom that goes into the tree trunk up to 4 feet. There is a movable hook 3 foot reach Digs into the other side of the trunk.

    I pull on top of the bar. 4 foot thick tree moves on my land towards the tractor where the chains are waiting. Once chained, i skid the trunk to where the saw is waiting to chop it up.

    Connecticut foundry sold my peavy to me 15 years go. The UPS man was not happy delivering that thing. It was too heavy for him being solid steel.

    If it was white oak I'd say it would come in around 200k that's converting board foot to cubes and averaging weight out to around 44lbs a cube give or take 20% because I averaged everything.
    Big difference if the sap is up or down. If saps up its gonna be a bit heavier.

    That's saying if they had been on the ground for a while. If its green and fresh I could see up to 400k tops

    You aint getting 30 out of that.

    There is a pair of logging backs of the twin stick variety flat out abused with Pyros long since burned out in the logging export operation near Reading PA I used to load containers at. Whole tree trunks, two or three rammed into the box.

    The macks come up the hill on a drag with 5 or 6 trunks in lowest gear flat out redline at walking speed. Since it's private land, off roading on dirt etc it's not a problem on their dedicated haul road to the docks where we loaded our boxes for the ships 4 at a time every few hours.

    For me to get back to Baltimore for Lloyd to put on ship with that wood 45 is about all I wanted to do with my late 60's mack. Pyros used to be 1450 on some hills. I could after a few miles wind it to 55 but that's about all I dare go with them. Gross weight? Above the 100K permit, I quit caring long ago.

    I wont forget that forest ever. Old growth Oak and others. I think it was planted before I was born probably 100 years back and replanted as they cut so 40 years later they can cut more.

    There is a tree at the post office they planted 21 years ago. It's about 3 foot wide and about 60 high now It's gone to be around long after I am gone and a monster in it's future.

    It’s a good thing that Pete has a automatic transmission!!! Otherwise it could not be driven!
    And where the hell is the Qualcomm antenna???
