I’ll be starting driving school in June but one of my concerns going OTR is the lack of parking(if there is one). Looking for advice from you guys to ease my mind. I’d prefer not to spend a night in an abandon parking lot in a dump like Detroit because there’s no parking. It’s dangerous.
Issues finding places to park...how do you handle it?

You"ll be alright, once you start getting experience you'll see what area's are good for parking, and which one's are usually full after a certain hour.
Lumper Humper, D.Tibbitt, JonJon78 and 2 others Thank this. -
Go to the Detrioter. Or continue on to Stoneyridge OH.
Get used to it, Parking is your number one problem in your life. Nothing else is anywhere near as bad in trucking. Why? because everyone is saddled with ELD's and now everyone needs to stop and park.
You can pave half of western Nebraska and part of Kansas in solid parking lot and it still wont be enough parking for ALL trucks in the USA.Tall Mike Thanks this. -
making it know to strangers at the truck stop counter, how much money you have in your pockets, or in your truck.
i mean common sense measures come into play, even in your own home...right..???
there is danger everywhere, it's how you walk like a person, and not a victim. -
When I used to go to Jessup I kept a Kabar in a boot straight down because in Maryland at that TA there there is a fuel desk inside the door the second room past the game foyer. Used to have two 16 year old thugs hang on the door frame forcing you to brush past them and pick a fight about respect (Which is a ruse to take your money) after you loaded up on a few hundred dollars off your comcheck counted in his full view 10 feet away behind you.
I learned never to carry more than a 20 and the blade going into there. And I would stand near the door frame telling the kid "Move please."
No.
I am nice. Please. Move. We need this path.
No.
By now three mr bigs rumble behind him saying yes, you move pipsqueak. Let this driver through. Show some respect for your elders.
He moved.
That was the last time I fueled there. -
Just starting out I would make sure the company you plan on working for reimburses you for paid parking. Being able to reserve a parking spot at your companies expense will help you a lot.

frankly, i never had any problems.
once the J opened up a few miles north, that was the place i'd stop at if i had to.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
That's News to me. They can use a truckstop since Frederick and Frystown closed up. -
Stay away from PA , NY , NJ and I have never had much trouble finding parking.

You can wake up earlier so you are shutting down earlier when there are still spots. You can drive over night.
Get comfortable using some of the lesser known places that offer truck parking, some Sinclair's, shells, casinos, and some ma & pa truck stops the masses avoid.
Also truck stops off highways have parking available until a lot later in the eveningLast edited: Apr 30, 2019
