    Sure. Sounds “foolproof.”

You guys (Braindead and Steeringwheelholder) will lose your jobs relatively quickly, but the guys who can actually drive will make bank. Once they pull you all out of the mix, they will nix the HOS, since the low end garbage is no longer relevant. Sounds like an exciting time.

Eh, automated trucks won't be the norm for another 30 or 40 years. It is going to happen, but there is a lot of legal work that needs to be done, and they really just aren't read to be alone yet. I'm not saying I like it, I'm not saying I agree with it, (I'm not going to randomly insult people who disagree either), I just know this is something that is coming. Can't stop the march of time.

Next 5 years they will need it tremendously as all of today’s cattle prods in cars will make the overwhelming majority of motorists utterly useless.

I think I read that article. They were saying that the artificial intelligence cannot distinguish between a tree a statue an animal a bicycle a human being. In other words it can't distinguish humans from inanimate objects.

I don't have a problem with the technology, but the technology has to be able to do what it's supposed to do. If it's an automated vehicle then it really does need to eliminate all accidents.

The objective of an automated vehicle should not be that it has the capability to go down the road automatically. Just because you can go down the road without a driver does not mean that he should.

It's going to be some time until what time is vehicles have the technology to be 100% safe and that's what they need to be. I still think even automated vehicles are going to require a driver just the same way that a plane can fly on autopilot but it has Pilots.

But at this point there really are only a handful of vehicles that are tested and they've been killing people! And what happens during a storm? What happens when it's dark and wet outside? They're in California what happens when there's an earthquake?

It is true that humans have accidents. It happens. But no human is going to run someone over because they didn't recognize a human being as a human being. There are some things that artificial intelligence just can't do that humans can.

That's the difference and that's the problem.

perhaps the car is targeting people? like in GTA 5 only it's just a car that mows people down.

I'm hoping that, since I'm 52 now, I'll be 'retired' and killing varmints for stew on a nice plot of land by the time the (steel) robots take over.

Distinguishing humans will be relatively simple, they just have to make a sensor that can measure the temperature 98.6 or close to that, inanimate objects temps would be close to air temp.

In making the choice between hitting a human or hitting a car, it will aim for the human.

The more advanced the parameters, the more fragile the entire autonomous system will be.
