Oh? I'll take your word for it that a truck was bumped up. But I have a hard time believing the math shows going faster provided fuel savings when/if all else is equal.

I only say it won't happen because Tony constantly insists it won't happen. He's in the office where the decisions are made and conversing.

    Who knows...

Totally depends on the gearing of the truck. Years ago, when Crete 1st turned down their trucks to 62 from 65, the oldest year Freightliners they had actually dropped mpg because it took them down to the lowest part of the torque band, so the drivers were constantly dropping a gear on the slightest of uphill climbs because in high gear, the trucks would just fall on their face. Their newer trucks were ordered with different rear gear ratios that kept it in the power band better.

True, like you said depends on ratios some trucks get better fuel milage running around 68-70ish

Doesn't that info get communicated when new trucks are purchased? Like "this truck is spec'd to run best at X speed."

Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't make much sense for a company to buy a bunch of identical trucks and they all run best at drastically different speeds and it's up to the driver to figure out what speed works best. Don't they figure this spec stuff out before they purchase? Would make sense to buy trucks spec'd for the speed you desire. I'm not on their level so maybe my assumptions are wrong.

This is a little bizarre. There are 24 red internationals with trailers from a company called First Fleet parked at the Flying J in Rogers MN. They're from Murfreesboro TN. Must be some kind of large quantity move. Amazing they were all able to find parking at the same place. I wonder how many are parked at nearby truck stops.
