How many of you guys still flash your headlights to let another driver know he’s clear to merge back over into the right lane or is that something that’s hardly done anymore?
Flashing your headlights to signal another driver over after passing?

Technically...you're supposed to BLINK your headlights. All flashing your high beams does is blind the person you claim you're trying to help. I think that got started by people too lazy to bend 12" to flip a switch up and down (or vice versa).
Texas_hwy_287, Texnmidwest, PE_T and 9 others Thank this. -
By the way...
If you blind me, I'll thank you by returning the favor.

I turn mine off. I have a Canadian truck and finding and deleting the daylight running light relay has not been a high priority, so I really just dim them.
Frankly, signalling to another driver that it is safe to move back over is part of old school trucking. My dad used to let me sit on the dog hoghouse and do it for him. If a driver has the courtesy to do it, I don't care if he or she dims or flashes, I appreciate the gesture. -
I don't need your help to get back over so don't flash your lights in my mirror.
brysol01, Superquack, xsetra and 12 others Thank this. -
Day time I "blink" the high beams...
Night time I "blink" the light off and on...
... But I will say this, if I see that the driver is attentive and going to merge like a normal person would, I DON'T DO ANYTHING. I just let the driver go and continue to have myself a mindless drive.peterd, SteveScott, Lepton1 and 5 others Thank this. -
I will sometime blink on my headlights during the day if there is congestion and the truck is looking for room to get over.
I never flash high beams at night, I'll blink them off.
Basically the same as @Nukem . If it's the middle night and no other vehicles, I don't bother. I do find it a bit weird in the reverse situation when I'm on a state highway in the middle of the night passing a truck who starts blinking or dimming his lights until I'm come over. -

This is a custom I would prefer to see die out.
I get that it's done with good intentions but I usually find it irritating anyway. Have never done it to others. I'm gonna credit you with the ability to detect where your rear end is without my help.JRTrax, homeskillet and ZVar Thank this. -
The title is ambiguous.
Flash could mean blind them with brights, or turn them off momentarily to notify the clearance.
Flashing brights at night is a NO NO and will get you called a dirty word from me, because it's amazing at how i happen to be looking in that mirror at precisely the exact time the nuclear blast erupts.
In the daylight? No probs.
If in doubt.. do nothing. It's my job to handle my rig.PoleCrusher, InTooDeep, Roberts450 and 3 others Thank this.
