A previous post listed accident mishaps that can occur and get you fired while still owing the money. Which is not quite the same as re-niging on your commitment and walking off the job just cause you got tired of it.
In a post I saw earlier for a particular company who contracts with a school, the wording of the contract was that the company MAY hire you, not WILL hire you, once you finish the school. So apparently, you're on the hook for a loan with the school rather than the trucking company if they don't hire you. Students no doubt go in thinking if they finish the school, they WILL get hired. They either didn't read the contract or didn't comprehend it or are willing to risk it. Either way, it's a pretty slick ploy of words by the trucking company.
I have yet to see anyone post a story of a trucking company or school suing a student or even reporting them to the credit bureau for quitting and not paying them back. Is it even done, or do the companies/schools eat the cost? If they don't enforce the contract and the student really has nothing to lose, then it must be there just for the occasional student who does the right thing and keeps the agreement. i.e. they decide to change jobs after 8 months and still owe money, or the new company pays off the obligation, or the driver just decides they don't want to do it anymore and they believe in keeping their obligations. They still have the CDL in their pocket, right? They can still apply elsewhere if they change their minds and get back into trucking with a different company, years later?
Everyone wants free training in the trucking industry.

For me it's nothing if I want that CDL back. It's a matter of arranging the fuel and 18 wheeler to go test. But I don't think that will be the case having heard what the doctor had to say earlier this week.
Sometimes I learn towards pilot school. There are still some very tiny licensing I can probably open up and keep once the ground and flight schools are over and done with at about half the cost of that 18 wheeler school. It will be just a personal bucket list only. I know I can navigate in the sky really well. I just have hands that are like bowling balls. No real good place to put them. -

I know several guys who busted their medical that can still fly because of this new ruling.
I can still pass my second class FAA medical but I'd probably go that route if I couldn't.x1Heavy Thanks this. -

That would be a very good reference. Thank you.
I am happy to see the Piper J3 is legit for that class of Certificate.
It is not a Instrument plane by any means and probably will need a Garmin GPS for aviation purposes. I am not sure if the plane would have your basic ADS and or a VOR radio in it. But we will see.
Our Airspace is influenced strongly by Jacksonville Airbase and by Adams Field. (They call it something else today...) Where I am we have a class II field in Searcy that is more than adequate for that work. -
All those for profit schools that closed after their lost their ability to accept government guaranteed student loans, well they also lose accreditation to allow their grads to take the state licensing exam in their profession.
Give it time and the FMCSA will be de facto shutting down these cdl mills too. -

Despite this thread: If you're at all challenged in getting a CDL you're SERIOUSLY doing something wrong..
I went to a school with loaded trailers, night driving, and four different types of manual transmissions. They basically gave the CDL away to people who couldn't keep up come test time. This is a highly regarded state funded school too..
I know for a fact most schools, especially mega carrier school, are automatic and short AF -
After Driving Straight Trucks for 7 yrs. I took all the written Tests. Including Doubles, hazmat and Tankers. My Dad took Me in his Company’s Truck for about 5 hrs. Taught Me a few tricks on backing up. It wasn’t totally free, I had to pay $50 for a third party Road Test. I felt like I’d achieved a Masters degree!! Lol. I had a great Dad.Not everyone is as Lucky as Me, If going for a paid schooling program, be sure to read the fine print. Realize what you’re getting into.
