There are many excellent things about the company that I personally appreciate, safety policies, equipment maintenance, and investments in technology, I'm able to talk freely with any of the office folk about any issues I have. I've had three loved ones pass away in my first year here, If I need to get home, they get me home.
Depending on the terminal, they have local, regional and otr. Local is mostly delivering fuel to gas stations, and you have to hustle (not for me anymore). I didn't make as much money on the regional runs as I wanted, so I went over the road, I have to admit I kind of like being out there again.
The pay is probably on the low side, which wouldn't really matter if they kept me running, this has been my biggest challenge, staying busy. If they don't have anything for you, they'll pay layover, which is something. They pay demurrage, but it is different for each contract, so you don't know how much you'll be paid, I've waited up to two days to be unloaded, sometimes it's $22 per hour, sometimes $3.50, but again it's something for doing nothing, still frustrating I have to hold my breath and count to ten now and again.
Take a good look at the health insurance. I don't know what it is like across the rest of the industry, but it cost me more (like $10k per year) than my last job, my wife job provides my health insurance now. I've talked to other (younger) employees who found it cheaper to go outside the company for health insurance. This would be my biggest complaint, imo the health insurance they offer isn't befitting a company of this size.
Other than the health insurance, I love working here.

Turned your trucks down at groendyke, how could they. Groendyke has no leased operators, all company trucks.
All company employees. -

Probably cause there volvus and yellow.
Seen a few running around with new decals so they must be using the decent ones then phasing them out when lease is up. -
Even though a Mack is far superior to a freight shaker or a KW in the tanker world. -
Walked out of orientation at CTL because they wanted me to sign a contract but couldn't tell me my pay. I have not seen seen a CTL for some time and all but assumed they had folded. COMCAR is not known for its transparency, its equipment, nor its pay so carefully ask all the right questions.
jsnell Thanks this. -
Last time I spoke to a driver he makes 62 cpm don't know how true is that but they are deadheading alot and their equipment looks worse than tankstar. I haven't seen much of comcar lately... only the flatbed division and a few tankers on the i10 corridor
