    No such thing as reliable.

Reliability depends on taking care of the tires and recaps fail because they are under inflated.

I'd stay away from retreads all together. Especially with the warmer weather coming. Its peel season...LOL...If your running duals you can get a tire at a decent price.

Prime ran them in thier trailers. Flatbed especially as they used duals and not singles. Tire inflation systems to make sure they weren't run low on pressure, slow speeds.

They are a crap shoot, I would never run them. Maybe if they were from casings I knew the history of. Virgins that I wore out...

They just let loose for no apparent reason. Going slow, not in hot weather, not under inflated.... Someone probably curbed them once too many times and broke the banding or something.

On a spread axle flatbed you might think it would com from the front axle that gets drug around and abused. It was usually on the rear axle, ripping off mudflaps, DOT bumper, smashing tail lights... Retreads? Not if I have a choice.

You get the biggest discount in the history of the world from Landstar on tires, and you're asking about caps?

I agree stay away from recaps. It’s a crap shoot
To say the least . I’ve seen lots of damage by recaps coming apart. I had a “ new” recap blow
On a test drive bobtailing a used truck a couple of years ago. If you pick up a nail or something in a tire , a virgin tire will just go flat and worst case unseat from the rim . A recap will go flat and most likely come apart and take out mud flaps , lights , air lines etc. Seen it many times.
Roadservice companies love recaps , when they blow , especially in hot weather they make a lot of money.

Years ago when I was always light caps were the way to go .
Not so much now and have learned premium rubber pays off in the end .

You can have one or the other. Not both.

I make it a rule never to put on recaps.

That's not so. I've run caps on drives for at least 20 yrs, and have had only two problems. Both of those were when I bought tires on the road. Stay with Michelins, goodyear, or bandag. I have mine capped at Michelins and they are my casings. Keep them full of air and you're good to go. Let them get low and you will blow out. Simple.
