Yes no reply.seems to kind of answer my question. Have them on my very short list but if they have those driver facing cams they are a no go. I thought I heard they had outward facing only.

I quite my last company because of driver facing cameras. I am totally opposed to the invasion of my privacy. I will change careers before I surrender my soul for them to watch me. They say they will trigger if it's a collision, bump, etc... this is not true. I was called into the office and asked why I was talking on my headset while driving. First I said I thought we can drive with a headset, second I said why are you watching me, it was a smooth road with nothing to trigger the camera. DON"T believe anything they say, you are being watched.

I am applying for trucking jobs now, I ask one questions that determine if I want to work for that company. I have turned down many of them because of cameras. I ask do you have cameras that face drivers. If the answer is yes to cameras, I say goodby.

I get it and I get it that some of you will just be manipulated and go along with the program. The truck is your home while you are on the road. I don't want a camera in my home plain and simple. You can put cameras all over society, everywhere you want but your not going to invade my privacy and personal space, enough is enough.

Not only that but being listened to...those cameras have audio and can hear what you say, eavesdrop on phone conversations etc....

They are not always 'on' but the person/s on the other end can drop in anytime they want- safety incident or not.

Also, the video and audio they get can be stored and replayed on other devices, websites, Youtube, etc...

My company has had them in our trucks for 2 years now. So far I haven't heard a peep about anything they've captured except for a couple of wrong way drivers and an idiot doing an illegal u turn, and I've set the thing off a bunch of times. What the cameras have done, from what I've seen, is help exonerate drivers a couple of times on situations that other wise would've landed them in some deep bantha poodoo.

I still depends on how each company uses them. Of course if it does catch drivers using hand held phones or going without the seat belt, they will be in trouble. To be honest, with the amount of stupidity I keep witnessing from the newer generations of drivers, if I owned a fleet of trucks I would put them in too.

They hire companies to watch and listen, thats all they do. Do you think the trucking company has time for that. Oh don't get me wrong the trucking CAN and Will watch & Listen also. An outside company monitors the cameras and the companies can also monitor the cameras. If they see anything or hear anything that the company has requested them to monitor, boom, it's sent directly to the head of safety, it happened to me twice. Once talking on a headset and once hard breaking, it's total BS.

The pilots union has prevented cameras from being installed in plane flight cabins. And those feeds would only be sent to the black box in the event of an accident. And they don't live there. But they have many personal conversations and probably interactions with female flight crew personnel. Yet their audio is already recorded, just no video at this point.

No union discussion please. It's against the rules here. But if pilots don't have them I don't think truckers should either.

It's just something else for the crybabies to cry about. As if they don't already have enough reasons.

We have the option to have our driver-facing cameras turned off as long as we behave ourselves. I told em' to leave mine turned on. Why? The chatter after pretty much every accident involving a truck these days includes "I bet he was playing around on his phone when it happened!" or something along those lines. The camera answers that question.

The airline industry is far more regulated than trucking.... strict checklists for everything from pre-flight to post-landing, constant training on simulators and frequent check flights. Also "sterile cabins" where conversations are restricted at times , and every word the pilots say throughout a flight is recorded... so if it crashes they know what the pilots were doing and saying, since obviously the pilots themselves are splattered to ####. What a trucker does is still far less regulated, training is #### poor, and most of the new breed drivers these days shouldn't even be allowed to ride a bicycle let alone a drive a truck.
