Think I'll stick with the bypass for now. When I make some money, I'm gonna order a new compressor and replace both of them. The compressor is looking rough. Looks like a rusted hunk of ####. If it does actually send more oil into the system, then it makes no sense to install a new air dryer when it will get clogged up with oil from the old compressor.
Bendix AD-9 dump valve seems to get stuck on.

That same oil will destroy airvalves. -
I hope your compressor does not go out on you before you get home.
Ending my drive one night my air pressure gauge started dropping while driving so I kept the rpms up. But when I got parked at the Petro in Oak Grove, MO I could not build air pressure. That shop charged me $1500 for new Compressor, and AD9 dryer. -
spyder7723 Thanks this.

Its one thing to bypass a filter to get you off the side of the road but to run it like that for even a week can be a very very expensive mistake.201, adayrider and Antonovich Thank this. -
Point taken. I'll replace the air dryer before starting work.
adayrider Thanks this. -
Are the air tanks full of oil, just because the dryer had oil in it does not mean it is pumping oil badly, it could also mean that it has never been serviced, they all gather oil until they can't anymore.
If oil does not come out of the tanks when you drain them, you are safe for the time being, in fact there was a time a lot (maybe all) never had an air dryer on them to start with,spyder7723 Thanks this. -
I've emptied the tanks twice now. No oil, no water.

If there is no oil in your tanks, then it will not be getting any oil in the valves, and there is no need to replace the compressor. I have bypassed the drier many times over the years to get home, usually when it is below zero, and have put off putting a kit in it for some time several times for quite a bit, never a problem.
I have also driven several trucks that didn't have one, also as long as a guy drains the tanks every so often depending on climate, no problems ever. -
I agree with this also. I rebuilt my 03 cat at almost 1 mill and ask the mechanic at the Cat shop if I should put a compressor on it while we were at it. He ask if it was passing oil (original compressor) I said no and he said he has seen just as many new rebuilt compressors come apart as million mile ones. So we left on and put almost 1.4 before selling the truck.
