I'm thinking about getting my Class A CDL License. Is this school worth the training?

I am thinking about getting my CDL Class A Manual License. I think I would like to eventually drive tractor trailers across country. Is this school a good school to get trained at?

I was told by someone that I should only invest in the minimum hours since a trucking company is going to train me anyway. Does this make sense? Or, should I go for the maximum hours?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

well first and foremost, when do you want to start driving..??

one year from now, 5 years..??

if you go and get your CDL now, YOU WILL HAVE to go back to school, and pay all over again, as the time lapse from the time you get your CDL till you actually start driving, is critical.

That's a good question. Because I am not sure if I will start driving right now or in a few years. I'm in my very late 50s and am having a problem finding work in my field.

So you're saying if I take the classes now I can start driving right away, but if I take the classes and wait a few years I will have to take the classes over again? If so, I didn't know that was the case.

School teaches just enough to drive the State Test without hitting anyone.

Companies do not "Train" trainees. They are muled as team running within a week. Trainer gets to snore and lay in the sleeper while YOU run off Donner for the first time.

Pay is below starvation rates for trainees. The sooner you get your truck assigned to you the faster you can concentrate on stacking unspent money.

yes, because if you do not start with-in x amount of time, you are considered not trained.

many companies have a time frame that must be met, for you to be hired, or it's back to school, and you pay all over again.

so make up your mind now.

the insurance companies dictate who gets hired....you with 0 experience and a 5 year old useless CDL, or a guy coming off the road for an easier job....

evey company is different. First Jersy Tractor is an excellent school. I made presentations there for 4 years as a recruiter for Maverick.
If you have a valid cdl, we will take you and put you through our training program. No additional outside training necessary.

Should I take the maximum amount of hours training or the minimum? I was told the minimum is all that I will need since I will be trained by a company anyway.

Yes, trucking companies have recruiters and they're constantly looking for good cdl grads.
I looked at the website and if I were you, I'd go through the class that trains on manual transmission and is minimum of 160 hr.
You may never drive a manual transmission truck, but it's better to be qualified anyway. Some companies have a mix of manual and automatic transmissions.
Plenty of good companies to choose and you don't have to let the school choose for you.
Here's a couple of them and you can call and ask if they hire from that school:
    Home - Leonards Express
DTI - Drive for Dot Transportation
