Hey guys I have a 2500 dodge ram diesel 2018. Looking at getting a 16 gn 8k axle trailer. Is that within the guidelines of not having a non cdl hotshot. I have a cdl I drive semis. Just dont want to anymore. Everybody talks about gvw gvwr gvwr and all that. The gvwr I found only in for the ram is 10000 lbs and the trailer gvwr is listed at 17500. So that means I'll be over the 26k. So will I only be able to get a 14 gn because it's under the 26k. Bcs gvwr on the 14gn is 15700

If you’re letting the cdl A license go? Many states, like mine have a rule that says the trailer you’re pulling must have a gvw of less than 10,001 lbs if you don’t have a class A drivers license. Check with your state before buying a trailer just to be sure you’re not tossing your money away. And with many trailer mfgr’s, they’ll de rate the trailer for you but only when buying it. They usually won’t change it after it’s been purchased. -
The 2500 has a very small payload. Assuming you have the crew cab 4x4 long bed, you have a 2200 lb payload. A fully loaded 14k lb trailer might overload the trucks rear axle. 15-25% of the trailer weight transfers to the truck I'm told.

Are you trying to stay under 26?

You can use your 2500 Ram with a 14K Trailer and stay under 26. As Flatbed said be sure to check with your home state to verify. There is a couple of hoops you don’t have to go thru by staying under 26. Try to get a longer trailer 34 to 36 to maximize the type of freight opportunities.
