And I want one, not sure of the price though.
Last week was a first for me, I got to watch them shoot a 105 howitzer on atigun trying to bring an avalanche down. They wouldn't let me shoot it, but it was still cool and LOUD.
It also didn't work, at least while I was there, but theyonly fired 3 shots and cut us loose to go over while they repositioned the gun for some more shots.
I was back through there yesterday and they had an avalanche, It had trucks bunched up for several hours, but they had a lane open and cut them loose before I got there.
It reminded me of the saying, you can't mess with mother nature. Even with a howitzer. lol

    Oxbow and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

I don't guess I know any other way to explain it, they were shooting the mountain.

It's pretty cool to watch one come down, isn't it...........as long as you're not in the way.

I did not get to see it come down, I don't think they brought one down with the gun, but one came down yesterday on it's on.
One night a few years ago one came down and stuck a friends truck. When the state guy got there he told him that they would be back in the daylight. and se about getting him out. He wanted out then abnd said so, the guy shined a light up the mountain and explained that is ready to come down at any time, we can't be working here until we can watch it. My friend told him, why the heck do you think I want out now. lol
He probably didn't get much sleep that night. lol

I believe they are saying as one of the tools to take along, bring a Howitzer 105, whatever that is. This year has been particularly snowy in the hills, some say almost 100 feet deep in some parts. CDOT brings down avalanches that way, mostly on Hy. 50 over Monarch Pass. They do a lot of damage. I saw the aftermath of a slide near Cottonwood Pass, after they cleared the road, there were trees piled 20 feet high. Aside from drowning, buried in an avalanche has got to be the worst.

A 105 howitzer is a beeg gun, more like a cannon of sorts on wheels with a hitch on it. lol
I do not know what the range is for them, but much further than any cannon. From where we were to the big black spots it was putting on the snow it had to be way over a mile. by the road it was closer to 4 miles, but it curves some. I could not even see the black spots until I got around there on the road, and they looked to be as big as a minivan.

I've seen them do that on tv, discovery channel or something.
