Excuse my ignorance but what is the grace period to provide insurance once I register for a USDOT # from FMCSA? I’m trying to get my ducks in a roll but I don’t to be stuck with paying commercial insurance when I’m not close to trucking yet.

I think after you apply for DOT number you have 3 months to add insurance, so your authority can become active

Zero grace period..... you need your insurance in place first before they will activate your authority.......

I can still file/register for my authority, it just won’t be active until insurance is provided correct? So by the time I complete my registration, I have 90 days to provide them w/ proof of insurance?

I heard that it is 3 weeks from when you get the numbers.
Why not call and ask them?
