I picked another truck with freshly built 2ws cat and i absolutely hate transmission in it . Its 10 speed , not sure what gear ratio for rears but its running at 1475rpm / 68mph
I have to go over 1700rpm to switch a gear and rpms drop to 1275-1300
I have 18 speed laying in my garage that wasmated to c16 before but i think it will be overkill for me ( i dont run over 80k ) , tractor will be pulling conestoga flat , im thinking about 13 ... Which one will be best , i think 10 speed is hurting mpg as well ..

If I was in your situation, I would throw the 18 without thinking twice about it. Long as it’s in good shape. It’s not over kill. Why would you throw a 13 and spend the money when you have already what most want ?

18 is the same as a 13. You just have the extra splitting option.

And just because you have 18. Don't mean you gotta use 18.

I have a 13 but the only time I use 13 is climbing hills. Same with the 18 when I had it.

Most of the time their just 8. Plus granny when loaded.

    What?

It don't matter what the weight it, 18/13 is to me the best of the best you can get. You can treat it like a 9/10 or a 13 or 18, versatile trans.

I know about 18 mostly used as 13 , i had in one truck
I think there are several different specs for 13 and im not sure if they will make whole difference to me
My 18 i drove just once before removal and it seems fine but i wouldn't want to spend now all money for labor changing it and find out in 6 months that i need to rebuild it and pay removal/install again .
Now im thinking either rebuild 18 and trade my 10 or get rebuilt 13 and trow in 18 and 10 as a trade .

I'm going to quote my wife on this one. "Go ahead and do what you want to because you will anyway"!

    I'll swap you a 13 for your 18.

The 18 has a higher torque rating than 13 ,

Before you just start swpping find out which trannys you have, it could be your ten has a higher final ratio than your 18.

I realize you only drove it once but if you did not hear a lot of noise or feel vibration or had it coming out of gear or gears clunking, you're probably okay.

If you're going to put a new clutch in and a new rear main seal and go over the clutch Fork shaft bushings and input bearing and shaft and the whole thing for the clutch job, if for some reason you need to swap a transmission and you've done all of that it's only a couple of hours to remove and install another one.

If you're really worried about it take the transmission to a transmission shop and let them take a look at it. But I absolutely agree with the other person that said to check what your high gear ratio is.

If you have a 10-speed I believe that the 13-speed is longer and you'll have to have a new driveshaft made. I'm pretty sure that the 18-speed is also longer.
