What percentage of people make it

when i was working, yes i had a million thngs to do on my weekends.

since i had worked nights, i would never miss any appointments.

i was able to go shopping, etc,etc.

now that i am retired, I STILL HAVE a million things to do, and frankly, i am working MORE now at home then when i had worked at the job....!!!!

 

It is just difficult for them. My Wife is by herself with the kids most of the time. She does her best but she is the type that needs her man more present. The kids have a hard time not seeing me regularly. Their schoolwork is suffering. Bottom line is if I was single Trucking would be no problem but with a family it is super difficult.

 

I am lucky, my wife is pretty handy and independent, we raised our 3 kids to be independent. What I have observed over the years guys with needy or clingy wives have to make a decision, basically wife or job, or find a local gig, which is usually harder work, but can be just as good of pay.

 

I am actively looking for a local job but need one that allows some decent, quality home time. I have been OTR trucking for roughly 4 1/2 years. It is past time for a change.

 

Yes, I get home and it takes me all afternoon just to open my mail, make calls on anything important, then get everything filed away or shredded. Then ccomes everything else after that. That was just mail.

Anything related to my car seems the hardest. I have to get work done when I get back, find some way to get home, then go back to pick it up.

And my home time is sacred. I dont wanna fill it with nonsense like that. I have a few days to blow off steam, relax, indulge a little, then I go back!

 

I’m single. Take to the OTR life like a duck to water.
I used to work a high paying job. Worked out of town a lot. Made six figures in 98. Last time I checked on them. In 07 they were pulling in 1/4 million a year. But they have no life. Very demanding on your time. It almost killed me with diabetes. It got to causing weight loss. No treatment for that.
This is soft core. I have everything with me. All kinds of stuff in this truck. Can cook. This is good.
My sister in law asked me what I do for work...
Told her...
I smoke...
I drink coffee...
And I drive all day...

 

I tell people that its a great job (otr with a mega as a rookie) if you don't mind living in a truck.

 

Plenty of us here made it and still do it. I’m still a pup in comparison to the majority on this board. Only have 8 years in.

Ask yourself MANY questions. Have I made over 100k a year the past 5 years? Yes. I have family members around that think I’m doing so well for myself that they want to get into it. 100k isn’t really that much money. Obviously, if your living in the Deep South making that driving your in great shape. But I’ve been living in a blue state (one of 4) my whole life. It’s not that much money.

Wanna make over 100k without being a UPS feeder driver? Make good friends with your log book and be ready to be maxed out every week with 10 off. Start at 8pm tonight? Ok. 1 am? Ok. 11am? Ok.

Once I tell my family members eager to get a CDL they usually forget it after they learn this. But... do I own a house and have a wife at home raising two kids on one income? Yes. How many blue collar jobs are left that can say that.
