Will they buy the company if the truck isn't fully paid off. I have a truck note. It's about 70 percent paid off. Now i'm would be entering into another area that I am unclear of..... selling off a business.

you must have jumped in with both feet, with out asking for information FIRST

it's WORK running a trucking company, and being an absentee owner ain't helping you

not thier problem the costss of tolls, fuel, driver pay, etc,etc...that's all on you, every day and twice on sunday...

again, very inexperienced owner on top of being an absentee owner.

dump the business..there are companies that can buy you out at the drop of a hat, and run much more effieciently, and make a profit, and don't try to own another trucking business

sorry dude, but you bit off way too much more than you can ever chew....

you gotta stop watching those "get rich quick" informercials, or reading how to get rich from some internet hustler...

I've actually never watched a "get rich quick" infomercial .I'm just trying to make a way for my family. Your negativity is unnecessary. If you have helpful advice, It's greatly appreciated If not, you should go comment under another thread. As far as the recommendation on "never owning another trucking business again", that was completely not needed. Thanks for nothing dude.

put it up for auction or bankruptcy.......then it'll be sold off, minus money owed, meaning you won't make anything on the sale

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the trucking business. I've had my authority a little over two months. My insurance policy seems extremely high (we put 6,800 down and pay 2,789 a month). My truck note is about 609 a month and we pay a driver 125 per day plus $15.60 an hour over 8 hours. We had to hire a driver because I work full time as a union carpenter. Gas and tolls depends on the loads that we get. This has been a complete headache thus far. Before giving up, I want to make sure I've exhausted all options. I have a 26ft reefer straight box truck and am located in the south New Jersey area. I've been working off of the DAT load board (which we pay a small monthly fee for ($43.00)), the C. H Robinson Load board as well as TQL's load board. We use Interstate Capital as our Factoring company who takes 3.49 percent of the pay. I've been trying everything under the sun to land dedicated runs, but there are many things in the way. Not only do I have to get my partner to spend hours a day on the phone trying to land deals with these brokers, but oftentimes I find that they only have work for 53 or 48f trucks. I can only run partial loads up to 10,000 pounds. The other issue that I run into is that the pay is horrible. They are not considerate of the gas, toll and head head miles that it requires to take some of the runs. Negotiating a reasonable pay is like "pulling teeth". The other issue that is common is that most brokers say that we need at least 6 months authority to do any runs at all (let alone dedicated runs). A lot of these brokers really get over on you. My driver constantly runs into issues on the roach which lengthens his work day which causes me more pay out.

I have a big family with expenses. My wife is currently pregnant. I need to make this work, or i'll be forced to get rid of the business. I go back and forth with the idea only because I feel like I should stick it out and things will get easier. I'd hate to give up a business that could be so lucrative. Some options that I've considered are trying to use the truck as a moving truck. A driving billboard or leasing out my truck. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to go about doing any of this? I obviously should have done more research before diving into this business. All help is greatly appreciated.

You should put that straight truck on with an expedite company like Load 1, Panther, etc. Would do a lot better than freelancing. They will find loads for you.

Not as an owner, but as I driver. I drove for both Panther and Load 1 plus a couple other expedite companies for a couple of years before getting a local driving job. You can google them to get their info. You can check the expeditors forums as well.

I have most of a sheet of half-inch CD X, four 2 x 3 8 foot studs, and seven nails. I can build a house out of this. I have to make this work. I have a house for sale. Why doesn’t anyone want to live in my house? This house is costing me so much money.

Ok I know nothing about running a truck business but would listen to these guys. I did open a business that was a very familiar area and it wasn’t easy. Takes know how and busting your ###. To truly be successful there’s not a easy button.
