I had ONE trailer with J=hooks, never again.
jamespmack, bryan21384 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
The ones i have on my company trailers is about 5 feet apart.. They come in handy on coils thats about it.. U can get pop ups on side and j hooks in the middle of ur trailer. Alot of the guys love j hooks alot of guys hate them. Just comes down to personal preference.. I guess it comes down to what freight you are hauling, if they would help or not
Tb0n3 and jamespmack Thank this. -
I have 22 per side on a 48 foot trailer
jamespmack and ford06 Thank this. -
The trailer I had with j hooks, had no popups, the rubrails were screwed on, no tie down points there.
It did have winches, but where you hooked the strap was cheesy to say the least.
It was an all aluminim trailer I bought over the cb one night sight unseen, and had it picked up the next day. lol
It actually worked out well for the purpose I originally bought it for, but when I started hauling freight with it, I had to get creative with tieing down a lot of things, so it went away pretty quick.jamespmack Thanks this. -
I had 22 pop up chains installed each side of my trailer when I bought it new. I liked them, but after a year they just became annoying. Personally i wouldn't spend the money on them if I did it again.

If you don't mind me asking, what was annoying about them. I don't use mine for everything, but sure like them for a lot of loads.

A chain link would get stuck at an angle. Where it slides through the opening for them and not come all the way through. Then if I didn't notice it while tightening with my binder, it would break loose. So I would have to redo the binder. But I was used to my lowboy that I could just hook to the rail. They felt to time consuming to me.
