My husband worked as a 1099 driver for almost 3 years until the owner could no longer afford to lease his truck from Penske. He had an accident on his record that will finally hit 3 years in Aug of this year.
He started orientation at Western Express this past Monday. Completed orientation on Tuesday... has been waiting since then for a truck. There are currently 8 other drivers waiting for trucks. Anyone know if this is typical for them?
I want him to just come home whether they finally give him a truck or not. He's got some blemishes but I believe there are other companies who will hire him.
Stuck at Western Express after orientation - NO TRUCKS!

Hang in there. If he COMPLETED ORIENTATION and they did not "Throw him out" literally walk into a class and pick him to get out of chair and show him the gate... he has the job.
Please wait with patience. What you do NOT want now is for him to leave due to your anxiety and then get clocked for quitting without notice a job he had in his hand.
Trucking sometimes requires wait. You love on him, send him money and show him no home problems. Ive waited weeks knowing my situation will move along in this industry according to the requirements of shippers, customers and management dealing with the issues way above my pay grade. Being patient to wait is one of the hall marks of a trucker. I know how to wait a week, two or a month provided the objective is going to be completed. Whatever it is.
The company knows he wants out to work. They may fly him to a truck. Just be at peace and wait.88228822, faux_maestro, Lumper Humper and 9 others Thank this. -

well being it's Western Express they're probably down there either recovering one that somebody abandoned, or his in the body shop waiting to come out after somebody wrecked it so he'll be good to ride
