I attended North Carolina Truck Driver Training School in 1964. One of my classmates was told at the half-way point that he could drop out and get half of his tuition refunded, or stay for the full four weeks and possibly not get a certificate. He stayed, but did not graduate. He had a masters degree in English Literature.

What is the average weekly pay either before or take home weekly or every 2 weeks for a new driver lets say starting with a mega carrier.
I do not want to make a huge mistake that why I am on here asking the questions and analyzing this from every angle.
(I chuckled to my self, because I read they have driver managers who have never driven before and I sat there like maybe I should apply to that.... Hell I have been in corporate for over 10 years. )

New driver pay is all over the place. They only thing I can almost promise you is that recruiters lie.

I tell my trainees that if they can make $600 a week for their first couple of months their doing ok. Quickly they’ll learn and get closer to $1000. The pay is cyclical though. You may do $800 one week and $1200 the next, but if you can make close to $50k driving solo your first year driving for a mega you’re doing well. Now people may tell you you’re and idiot for working so cheap. But it’s important to remember that this first year you’re trying to learn. That’s the focus. For year two you’ll begin to get an idea on how you like to run, and where. Then your pay can start going up as you get with better carriers.

What are some of the better carriers?
You mean like working for actual companies for instance WalMart or Dollar General?

Dollar General uses a mega to haul their loads and it’s a reputable horrible gig. And I see more Swift trucks pulling WM trailers than WM dedicated anymore.

Better carriers usually means (but not always) someone you have not heard of before. They tend to have 5-100 trucks and treat the driver like a human, not got meat to toss in the grinder.

Some larger companies are good, some smaller companies are. For the most part though going with a company that can weather downturns, pays good and legal, and has enough freight to actually keep you moving.

Honestly that probably happens hundreds of times a day across the country.
