My question would lean towards survivablity of QC versus hostile actors who wish to seperate the load being monitored from it. (Stories range from cutting cables, covering unit etc.) Some of the loads Ive hauled using the first generation unit had both tractor and trailer in trace being tracked. Ive always been curious as to it. Particularly because of the high value dollar load in the back in those days.

Yup. @OT John seems to be pretty useless on this thread. Why even start it if you can't take time to answer a single question?

Why does an Omnitracks unit cost $2500 and operate on Windows XP? Mine loves to brick when I come off hometime.

Omnitracs IVG 4G LTE: $799 (Runs on Windows Embedded Compact (WEC))
Omnitracs XRS: $0 (Runs on whatever OS is on your Android device)

I think that older Omnitracs (Qualcomm) models might have been in the $2500 range because of the dome antenna on top of the truck and such, but not the current units.

I used the first generation. Text based. Whatever it was.

I landed the original factory manual with it in orientation with ATS, slept with it at night that week. Learned a few things. Such as it will display a 8 to 12 digit number on a macro status when a customer is actively "Looking eyes on" the unit to your exact position on the planet. That meant hes waiting for you. Hope you are moving along.

There was alot they did not tell me.

    Anyway.

One night from Gulfport north through Oxford over to Memphis the hardway in ice with bridges sanded by MISS DOT I chatted with a friend via the early internet (Netscape anyone?) in form of emails. I think 300 miles passed before we were finished with emails back and forth like chat in a VERY timely manner. Even with icing up there.

Cost me 30 some odd dollars in my personal writing and my company was tolerant. Dowdy was really good to me, probably a little more than he ought. His was a good outfit. I think they are out of business now. But that was my first chat anything online or even in space for that matter. Far out as we used to say.

You are correct. Although Microsoft changed the acronym from "CE" to "WEC" now.
