I'm not sure if this will get much advice or not but how much does one usually charge to haul freight? I'm wanting to reach out to local companies but I honestly have no clue what to say as far as rates go.

I've been using a dispatch company that has had its ups and downs but it's still early in my career. But the freight has been anywhere from $1.50 to $3.20. There is such a huge margin that I dont really know where to start when trying to branch out.

    Thanks for any advice.

You can subscribe to transportation load board such as DAT. They have a feature that shows the rate for a particular lane you may be interested in.

    Miroh Thanks this.

It does fluctuate that much. While you are using a dispatch company they have guys calling them all the time then they will go to the load board, then it depends on a lot of factors. Personally today i generated $700 worked 6 hours ran less than 200 miles. Now I am loaded for tomorrow I will rum about 300 miles for $900 all miles are from my house out to pick up, drop, and back home. I run my state and surrounding states. I used to run with a dispatch company but they all think about running from point A to B and not running local. And different parts of the country have different rates. When you know enough brokers you can choose where and when to run.

I'll have to check it out. Thank you!

Yeah that is what I was thinking. I'm trying to figure out a set pay for local companies here when I have a hard time finding loads to take me out a few weeks.

And yeah, dispatchers are only finding them one way but that works for me as I stay out 2 weeks at least before coming home. But sometimes I end up sitting while I wait for them to find me something else.

About....700 miles lol. But I found some good runs around the northeast so I plan to head back up as soon as I can. I'm from Georgia.
