Can it tell you how old the carrier is?
Is it a bad sign when the carrier physical address is in a suburban area with no truck frendly parking area?
Do DOT numbers say much??

Lower numbers are older..........
Bean Jr. and Intothesunset Thank this. -
A lot of carriers have the legal address in places other than truck yards. Many O/Os use their home. Not all are truck accessible.
brian991219, Cat sdp and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Also in Google you can come up with fines imposed perhaps in the current fiscal year of a state where it's domiciled. Or perhaps a series of inspection reports, anything from OSHA life, death injury down through to the routine banal inspections etc.
Its a good number to have if you have a hold of it for researching.
I heard talk this year they plan on disposing that for some other form of displaying. -
Mine has never said a word, maybe I should have a talk with it. lol
x1Heavy, Midwest Trucker and nikmirbre Thank this. -
my address on my dot number goes to a urban address that's not totally truck friendly as in you wouldn't park trucks and trailers there. my truck is never at that address, i have a shop and yard space but i don't get mail at that address.

I think Schneider's office address in Indy was a lawyer's office. Someone tried to go there

FFE Maintained one address in the second floor of the Tulsa Texaco. A phone and all was in it.
Im pretty sure that having a truck and driver come through there for a period of a day or two satisfies some sort of occupancy law. -

They can sell (transfer) DOT numbers, but when the FMCSA transfers the authority, they will assign a brand new number. This is so carriers cannot mask their history by purchasing a lower number.
The Gels Thanks this.
