Some things that are peculiar to these event loads...
some of the places we deliver are not for big trucks
the people receiving the loads can't give directions cause they don't have much any idea of how to get to their places with a big truck
they also have no idea how big the trucks are and how small their places are
Generally we can park overnight at these places.... all these deliveries are in the morning.
I saw the location on Google satelite and figured out how to get there and which gate to use... I suspected gate 2 would be closed but was told that gate is always open... Yeah.... right...
No... it wasn't.... But that's ok.... I was prepared for that... the little area outside the gate + the street was enough for me to make a u-turn and go back to gate 1....
And once inside the parking lot, I parked the truck and walked around to figure out how to get to the back.... cause there were many cars and very tight turns and low tree branches....
Now I am parked here for the night...
will be unloaded at this event in the morning and then head to another place in SC for a drop and hook and then head back to my company's warehouse in TN and then probably will head to OKC for trailer maintenance.... and who knows what else...MagnumaMoose Thanks this. -
Saw an awful truck jackknife this afternoon near Asheville, NC... right where I-40 and I-26 intersect.... in the middle of rush hr.... truck was sitting there in the middle of the road causing a lot of chaos.... driver was sitting inside...
-
And I-40 West in NC was shut down for 4 hrs today because of rock slide.... they said it was from mm 7.5 to mm 20 or so.... it caused HUGE congestion.... glad I was going east....

One of my oo's got into an event gig and that is what he mostly did for a year or so, I wound up getting roped into a a couple. One was in New Orleans and they gave me the wrong exit to get off at. What a mess with a 53 in a residential area, no truck signs everywhere, and low hanging tree branches everywhere. I finally saw a cop and headed his direction for directions, when I got there he was directing traffic for some sort of parade, I forget what, but just more headache. lol When I finally got to my destination we all had to park in the back, which was just a road with houses on the other side of it, for the night.
Rocks, Feedman and otterinthewater Thank this. -
I don't know how I would do this job without Google maps, specially satellite view and street view....

I did one event in New Orleans once.... the organizers contacted City Hall to request police escort for the trucks because the route we were supposed to take was restricted.... but at the end of the day and a lot of talk, they gave us a different route so that we wouldn't need escort.... nevertheless, that was an "adventure"...
I have done one event in Los Angeles... I was the only truck.... after the luncheon on the grass in front of the building, I drove to a church with police cars ahead of me, blocking intersections so that I wouldn't stop... that was pretty cool....
Sometimes, depending on the event, how big it is... streets are blocked by police...
The most important event I have ever participated in this company was in south Houston, TX after a huge flooding... President Trump was there + the governor and the mayor... it was at a church. There were 2 trucks... mine and another driver.... never seen so many secret agents, police, swat team, everything...
We, the trucks arrived the day before and parked overnight... early in the morning DOD guys (Dept. of Defense) knocked on my door to check the truck and trailer for bombs and guns, etc....
Sometimes it can be interesting...MagnumaMoose and dwells40 Thank this. -
BTW, delivered the load at the event this morning... then, had to stay there till noon as agreed.. for folks to take pictures in front of the trailer...
After that, did a drop and hook at a shipper and after going thru lots and lots of traffic jams today on I-40 NC and TN, now I am safely parked at my company's warehouse in TN... tomorrow they will unload me and who knows where I will go next...? Shall see...MagnumaMoose Thanks this. -
