Please Describe What an Ideal Company Would Be Like...

McKesson. Loads are in one particular spot, trailers in another ready to go. Drop hook and deliver. Reload within hour with cardboard bales going to Memphis, drop, hook next load going out and roll.

No bs propaganda, no micromanagement, mo make work etc.

But you do have some important people following you, your tractor and trailer plus the load trackers within the pallets. A word from you fills the area with the law if need be.

 

The one that has more money, more miles, and more hometime.

 

You are projecting yourself onto what you think other driver's are like.

Sit down, I have some shocking news for you................

 

I'm not even going to respond to the OP, when drivers think they can run a company, that is time for the people who make it work to leave.

 

We live in a society where you have to have the best everything now, or you're nothing.

So you're new company has to be the best, most ultimate, end all to be all, or it's just going to suck.

Your trucks have to be the ultimate. In fact you're going to need to replace your brand new trucks every 90 days.

Detention will be $100 an hour, paid by the minute, starting 1 minute after your appointment time.

Driver can accept or decline any load.

Layover ($500 a day) will be paid on any day the driver sits, even if he declines loads or is out of hours.

24/7 HR hot line must be available if the driver is suffering an emotional or psychological situation.

This is just a broad outline of what you're going to need.

 

Ask 10 drivers what they want, and you will get 40 answers.

Seriously though, there is too much variance in what drivers want to be able to have one company make more than a fair-sized chunk of truckers happy.

Some drivers want the back office to handle everything, and they just drive. Others want a load board and no interference from the back office at all.

Some drivers want CPM. Others want % pay.

Some drivers are easily insured. Others can barely be insured at all.

What I would suggest is looking at the business models of several trucking companies, see which ones make the most sense to you, and then modify that business model to suit your needs.

Problem with that is that starting as a smaller operator, there are going to be things that you just can't do affordably. Custom software? Probably not an option. Special deals on service and block fuel buys with big truck stop brands? Not likely.

There are a few small fleet owners in here that speak up from time to time. I imagine they might be willing to say a few words on this.

All kidding aside other than better benefits and a little more cpm the company I am at is my pick.
