Self Driving Trucks are Coming

I will say, I dig what they did with the 2020 Cascadia. But I don't feel it should go much further than that. Create the tech that, when used properly, makes driving that much easier on the brain come the 8 hour mark, and that can be overridden by the driver. But don't outright replace the driver. Class II automation is as far as we need go IMHO

 

What commodities do you haul requiring 2 mil? I’m curious, I haul general freight with a dry van. Standard is 1 mil, very rarely need more, unless high dollar load.

 

Back in the 70s, futurists predicted that by 2000, we would all have flying cars. Lol. Driverless is coming, and will be welcomed by most, by the time it happens. But meanwhile it’s a long way off 20 yrs at least. The technology is slowly being integrated already, self parking, lane control, brake control, etc. Fully autonomous is a far away reality. Companies are hyping it up, looking for investors

 

Heck, 2 mil is required to haul gravel on the base, it doesn't matter what you are hauling, except for fuel, or maybe chemicals, some companies just require it. It may even be the refineries that are the ones that require 5 mil,but I don't think so, because I haul hot oil out of the refinery and do it with 2 mil.

 

An aside, anyone ever wonder why there's no talk of engineer-less trains or pilotless aircraft?

It would be much simpler to implement fully autonomous trains or planes, right?

Maybe it's because railroad employees and pilots stick together and will walk off the job en masse if a company ever tries to phase them out.

Sure wish we could do that.

When the majority if plane accidents are due to pilot error? Might be safer.
