Talking about cheap freight there was once a guy on a message board that bet me I couldn’t find him a $2/mile load out of Wyoming. No names but let’s call him Board-Skate. Anyway, I found him a load of onions that paid by the bag and the trucker was so happy he loaded them in his cab too. He cried tears of joy all the way to NH. Said it was the highest paying load he ever hauled and wanted to go out on top so he retired right after.

I hauled 2 loads of onions in my life. The first load was out of oregon to homestead Fl. I restacked them in Utah, in NM, and in La, then had to talk a nonenglish speaking gate gaurd into letting me in to unload when I got there. This was on a spring ride trailer, I vowed to never try this again. Well after I bought my step, I took a load out of idaho, to chicago, They whined because they couldn't load me off the dock, but agreed to load me on the ground, the guy was loading me off the sides, but had the pallets turned the wrong way. I tried to explain I was too wide, but he insisted he was doing everything just like he always did, I ask if they fit in a reefer of van and sure enough theydid, Don't know why your trailer is so skinny. I finallygave up and told him to get them on there and I would get them delivered, I think I hauled the only oversize onions ever. lol.

I remember leaving and blew by two open weigh scales. One leaving the state and one entering the next state almost right away. Unless you knew they were there it was too late by the time you saw them. I was chased down on the second one but he didn't do anything, just let me go. The sign said weigh station next right but they meant to take the exit off the highway onto a street. I thought it was going to be an exit just for the weigh station.

I'm going to be a Hobby trucker once again soon although scaled down a bit. My poor beat up truck and trailer sit in town at a local heavy equipment garage.

Still? You haven’t sold them yet? What year is that star car?

    2001 Western Star 4964 and a 2015 Great Dane 45'

I sold the truck and trailer to the garage for $5,000. My truck and trailer were hit so many times PARKED towards the end of my trucking career I technically sold them for $35,000 since I never fixed either. The back of my flatbed was hit and the rear corner bent down a little. The part alone was $8,000!!!! They basically would have had to cut off the whole back end and weld on a new one.

I'm so glad I'm done with trucking. It was fun for maybe 6 years. Didn't realize how much I like lots of money, working 8 hours, Chinese food and Tequila. I still drive up the road every weekend to the small truck stop and check out the trucks. I never noticed before how many people are living in their cars there also.

When I do hit the road I'm heading West. I hate the East Coast. I plan to stop at Iowa80 and other places on the way. Got all my wood working tools and plan to camp at what is called dispersed camp sites at National Parks and State forests 14 days at a time. The max you can. I REALLY miss the meat pies Flying J sold in Texas.

Maybe I'll stop by one day. I have no idea why I have your address and phone number. I'm getting old. I'm 65 now and a legal senior so now I can ##### out anyone and they can't touch me or it's a felony. lol
