Am I the ONLY one that actually wants to go OTR?

The onlyproblem is , u realize ur company always sends u to the ####ty places because thats where all the frieght is at.. Seeing the country isgreat on a nice summer day but it sucks when ur driving thru blizzards or rain storms or ice and tornados

 

Only because he's never done it.

Let him fight Atlanta traffic or have to drive around Chicago in a big rig once. He'll come crying back to us changing his mind.

 

Most places get considerably more tolerable after you find a few hidden holes to park in the city overnight.

Everyone is trying to make $90k per driving Walmart trucks regionally.

Elog has helped kill OTR freight jobs with a solo Driver. And it is not fun anymore.
You are either hurry to deliver, or sitting more than you can take now days.

 

By golly, he may turn out to be a real trucker too. lol

 

I'm with ya OP...... Got about 1.5 years until I can retire from my current job and drive full time... For now, I just keep moving hay and cows for the locals and look forward to my weekly runs through MT on my side gig.... Love seeing the sun come up from the drivers seat.

 

I actually came across a truck driver several years ago who told me that he made it a point to VOLUNTEER for loads that most drivers don't want, along with VOLUNTEERING to go to places that most drivers tend to shy away from, some of those places being very dangerous or outright crime infested.

That same truck driver also told me that he made it a point to VOLUNTEER to go to warehouses and distribution centers that most truck drivers literally ABHOR going to.

By the time I got through talking with this particular truck driver, he emphasized that he was doing his darnest to build up a good record for a better all around driving job with another trucking company that had some very strict requirements.

At the time I spoke with this truck driver, he mentioned that he kept METICULOUS records of all his travels during the 2 years that he was at the company he was driving for, (I believe out of Ohio, cannot remember).

This is a truck driver one cannot help but have the utmost RESPECT for.

I prefer OTR. I’m a loner. I lived in hotels in the oilfield which I also liked. Up until October I was Management for 2.5 years home everyday. I still prefer OTR. My girl doesn’t mind either so that helps a bunch, not that I would let her choose my career lol.

 

Heck, mine likes going with me better than I like going with me. lol
