    Workmans Comp saved my 6 when my back let go and it was no picnic. Had to fight for every penny and that's pretty much what it amounted to. I would gladly have been working, but bad doctors can make a bad situation way worse. Anyone thinking or having to have surgery, know who's doing the job, I lost years of my life and am still paying in pain, for not researching my surgeon(he was good but he had never operated on anyone over 100#'s).I went on the recommendation of another doctor I trusted and man did I get screwed. Just another good Ol' boy network.

    I worked with a driver like that, he did some of the craziest things and always had a witness. Like stepping back and tripping over a box that he knew was there. Once he was hooking up a trailer and was standing straddling the frame rails and dropped down an crushed his gonads on the driveshaft. He always knew which doctor to go see. He never did get has permanent vacation pay!

    Owner of the company can decide to not get it. Up to you whether you want to buy some other sort of policy in case you get hurt or sick.

    My drivers are around 6.5 to 7% of gross for their workman’s comp.

    Or you could go shady and have them as 1099’s and not pay payroll taxes or workman’s comp. could buy all white Volvo’s, move to Chicago, and make your dress code be track suits and flip flops.

    [QUOTE="inandoutoftrouble,

    God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.![/QUOTE]

    And God Bless all us hard working Tax Payers who dutifully fork over the Payroll Taxes which goes into the General Funds instead of into a retirement account like it was supposed to so we could have some income when we’re too old to pull in a paycheck anymore. Thank You very much crooked politicians for stealing our retirement.........

    It is my understanding that my state will, but we are at the mercy of the people we haul for, some will others will not, which sucks.
    As an owner the state does not require it at all, but pretty much anybody we can haul for does.

    It's my understanding you can't buy true workers comp on yourself. You can only get occ/accident.

    That was my understanding when I was out of New mexico, in fact workmens comp would not pay the owner, it would pay employees.
    It is different here and does pay, I know a couple that have had to use it.
    New Mexico has changed their laws too, but I am not 100% sure what all they have changed, I know even the owners now has to be covered, where you used to be able to have 3 employees without having it.

    Insurance companies can find more ways to take you're money without giving back, like politicians, that's how they're able to stay in business. What would we do without ins cos, put a lot more money in our pockets, that's what!

    Yeah ten4. On this end, at this point we’re set up with 60 brokerages. All have accepted

    (Just to let you know some numbers) ... shouldn’t be much of a big deal unless there’s some specific customers/brokerages/carriers/ that you plan to haul for says no. I’ve come across quite a few customers who have a waiver of liability in their carrier set ups that waive their liability of workman’s comp claims once you sign it. Some brokerages just go that route.

    Good luck

    Tombstone69 Thanks this.
