Hot Shotter

I could be wrong...but hot shots are usually people in pickup trucks, like Diesel Fords or Chevys...etc. Hauling campers, and other loads that need to be hauled, but don't need a Big Rig to do so.

 

This has been debated but most define hotshot work as a kind of flatbed expedite moving time sensitive , high paying loads . O/O's they call themselves hotshotters do not consider LTL and RV haulers hotshotters . But if hotshotters did hotshot work exclusively they'd starve . I know a hotshotter that recently started hauling cars to keep his trucks moving . He still has to get a decent rate though .
At one time expedite work was called hotshot and sometimes is still referred to as that .

 

there for runnin time sesitive parts and supplies for the oil firelds but they also run flatbed loads like pipe. usually through broker or there own connections

 

There is one O/O with a stepdeck leased to FedEx Custom Critical . He does a lot of aviation work . I read in Landstar's Success magazines about a couple of interesting loads . One was for a generator for a cruise ship in Alaska . It was trucked from Denver to Atlanta then flown to Alaska then had to be put on a barge because the cruise line didn't want it loaded from the dock side where the passengers could see it .Another was a turbine for a helicopter in Alaska .
But as I said earlier , hotshotters have to haul some regular freight to survive . I know one that gets loads from a manufacturer of pole barns . Some orders are too heavy to get on one flatbed to he gets the balance of the order . He has hauled rebar for construction projects . If you see the goosenecks on the road you'll see what they are hauling .
