Hey guys, I received a call from a company I had applied to and they wanted to know about a unpreventable accident that’s on my DAC.

I had a steer tire blow out at 70 mph on I65 outside of Louisville. Luckily no vehicles were around and I got the truck to shoulder. The blowout damaged my hood, side fairing/skirt, bumper, and headlight. Things got worse when suburban towing showed up. Because I had just top off with fuel it was leaking out of the cap and the wrecker driver didn’t want to cut the corner of the bumper off and put a new tire on. So the bumper is blocking a hook point and he decides to push up against it with the tow arm and ends up cracking my radiator.

So a little body work and a tire turns into a $5000 radiator job. I called claims when this all happened and insurance paid out. I took before and after pictures and told them that suburban cracked it. They said they would handle it.

I called Mercer safety asking them why there’s an accident on my DAC. She tells me because i called claims. My question is, is this right? Is it because of the amount of money? The recruiter told me it says “miscellaneous unpreventable accident”. I liked Mercer as a company and didn’t leave until a month or two later on good terms. I would like to think they wouldn’t try and screw me but crazier things have happened.

According to the DOT, it the vehicle is (damaged enough) to be towed.. it goes in the books as an accident. There is a reason that most companies would rather have a ridiculous road service bill than a tow truck bill that is sometimes less. Just explain the incident and most companies won't have an issue with it.. unless you have three or four of these things..

Ok thanks. My DAC was spotless until this. Do my best to keep it that way.

The fact that it states the accident was "unpreventable" means that you still never had a chargeable accident.. you should be good
