Does anyone know if a broken shock mount on dry van is a OOS violation. I was hoping to keep rolling till Monday morning and go to a shop. Road side estimates are pretty high for a $100 job. Ive read conflicting stories that yes and no.

I would say almost certainly, yes. I don't think that they tolerate ANY broken suspension components.
Can't you just stop at a welding shop and have them weld it up real quick? There's probably a shop within 20 miles of you right now. -
singlescrewshaker Thanks this.

What's more expensive? A road service that fixes your problem for a few hundred dollars or a OOS that costs you god only knows how many thousands sitting still. And then fixing that darn thing. You did not say if you were a OO or a company, if you were a company, the dispatcher can find a transload or cold storage to unload that broken trailer and have a team or trailer brought up, loaded into that one and gone on it's way while you deal with the busted one.
Trucking on the weekends are expensive. Especially when everyone waits until monday to do anything.singlescrewshaker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Rideandrepair, singlescrewshaker, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this.

in the interm you could try removing the broken parts/shock. Maybe they won't notice.

That's not a valid OOS condition. Make them show you the regulation that allows them to put you OOS for that. Tell them that you want to escalate the issue to their immediate supervisor. If they can't, or won't, then tell them that they need to let you continue on your way. Get in your truck and drive away if they don't comply.
But yeah, you need to do a better job of checking your equipment. It didn't break on this particular trip. And don't load freight that pays less than $2.25/mile.Last edited: Jun 22, 2019

Im sorry to hear of the welder not on his game. And that you were able to one way or another fix it. That is a good thing.
I have seen nothing but money in this industry, we can either spin it, throw it away, or fix it. You could not get a large company to spend a dollar properly without a certain amount of yelling and screaming. Getting them to spend to fix is one of the hardest things.
I suppose it's no different than being a one Man band who would like nothing better to see it fixed with the least cost. Im just happy to hear you managed to fix it. And that to me as a company driver I think is worth a whole lot more than say a multmillion dollar company who cannot be bothered to fix anything. I would be looking for another employer.
Ive said enough, it's fixed. I hope that your schedules or plans for after getting empty is not disrupted too much.3ARTransport Thanks this. -
My spring ride trailer didn't even come with shocks. Don't think they'd put you oos, but would looked better if it wasn't flapping in the breeze. I hear you on the road service. Some of them are real crooks..3ARTransport and Rideandrepair Thank this.
