Yup..baby Cummins. 1,000,000+ miles on a few of em. It's kinda funny because they look rough but when you drive them they all run and shift really well. They are really bouncy tho, I'm guessing that's the short wheelbase and the fact they are always bobtail when I get them. Being a mechanic Volvo's have always impressed me with how they never seem to be taken care of (Tampa has a white Volvo crew...) Yet they always seem to drive nice. I don't drive for for a living so I very well could be missing something but I don't understand why they get so much hate.

I don't mind the looks of those old Volvo's but if we're honest, and if I recall the way all that went down, they're not really Volvo's are they? Plus you said they're daycabs.....you don't see any of them over the road anymore.

Those are not the hated Volvo's...heck the only thing Volvo on those is the badge on the grille. The real Volvo's are hated for electrical problems. There is a Local grain hauler here that still runs one. He had good luck with them so he bought a bunch of newer ones.....LOL the new ones are ALL gone now......electrical problems and engine problems.

This isn't one of his trucks, just a Google image but it's pretty much the same thing.

I owned one. Was a good work truck with a 425 b model, but like you said nothing volvo about it but the badge. Was otherwise literally identical to the gmc white prior to it.

White had Freightliner for a couple yrs around the same time. Penske took over control of Detroit Diesel, And also GM ACC Trucking Co. A lot of Changes back then.Penske made out like a Bandit. Stole engineering secrets from Cat, developing ddec system. Settled lawsuit with Cat 10? Yrs later, after selling 1 million engines. Cat scrambled to catch up, then gets put under by Emissions. To think it all could have went differently.

Does anyone here think, or hope. that Cat will make on-highway engines again? I hope so
