So I took the plunge and dove into this industry head first. After 20 years working in an office job I hated, struggling to get by, and knowing a layoff was coming, when they finally let me go, I immediately went out an signed up for training CDL school. Next, I went and bought a gently used truck to get straight into it and hopefully have a bit more choice about routes.
All my eggs are in this one basket and my family is counting on me. I'm not gonna lie, I'm scared s#@tless. I hope this doesn't bite me in the butt and I end up loosing my house or worse.
Diving in, hope this works out

You should be scared.
A new and inexperienced driver with his own used truck, trying to run an unfamiliar business on his own and with no training.
And you think you were struggling in that office job?
Good luck.tscottme, runningman0661, slim shady and 6 others Thank this. -
If you already bought your own truck, my advice would be to park it. Learn how not to tear off a bumper on someone elses equipment. That may not be concidered good advice by some, especially if they own trucks. But there is a lot you need to learn before operating your own truck. Not trying to be rude, but right now, you dont even know enough to know what you dont know. You wont even know what questions to ask for a while. I wish you the best, but you are kind of doing it backwards. And you may have a good bit of trouble finding a GOOD company that will lease on a newbie who is also a new owner operator. You will likely find some shady company who will take advantage of you and make your learning curve cost a lot more than your driving school cost you. Good luck.

I agree with Mr Ed, you came at this backwards. You put the cart before the horse. Slow down and think this through before you make some huge mistakes. Learn the business before you invest any more funds. Just my opinion.

Private training school, and yes a semi.
MrEd and Omega, I agree with you that I am doing it backwards and you are right I don't even know what I don't know at this point.
Slowing down is an option, and one that I'm giving a lot of thought towards. -
MTBwheeler, Lepton1 and HoneyBadger67 Thank this.
