My dad started a trucking company and has put me in the position of safety and compliance with no knowledge of how to run a company with company drivers. We have 3 drivers recruited and we're in the pre-employment stage. I know we at least have to obtain an MVR of their licensed state, but do we have to get an MVR of every state they will be running in? We were originally planning on running in 6 states, but now it seems we could run in as many as 23. In an effort to save time and money I was looking to get some clarification as to exactly what we need to be getting for these new drivers. Any help or clarification is greatly appreciated.
MVRs for drivers - which states do we have to get?

I don't believe you can get an MVR of a driver who doesn't have a license in that state. Once a driver is convicted in particular state, that state is required to report it to the licensing state.
Opendeckin and tscottme Thank this. -
MVR for whatever state they have their license in plus a background check should be sufficient.
tscottme, Bean Jr. and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
MVR for all states that the driver held a CDL for the last 3 years. CDLIS report will give you the CDL license history for that SSN.
