Gliders is it over?

    Is it true All manufacturers are going to stop production on these with the limit on only 300 per year?
    What's your thoughts or ideas to keep gliders going.

    Plenty of old trucks around not running. The money you'd spend on a glider, you could refurbish an older truck, and be way ahead of the game when everything goes down the crapper,,,

    We need to banish all these old dangerous trucks from the road and march forth to autonomy.

    Buying an old worn out truck is not an option for everyone due to many reasons, reliability being my number one. Not wanting to own over stressed weight bearing parts being my number two reason. I will take my rebuilt series 60 engine and 18 speed transmission over a new engine with EGR any day. With a used car carrier I couldn’t easily know the equipment abuse history or service life expectancy. I also did not want to buy 45,000lbs of hydraulics and steel that had been worn out by someone else as these things rust from the inside out. Therefore the glider was the best of both worlds for my business. I got a new rig with a better than new engine and no FET. This is not a one size fits all industry we operate in and what works for one operation may not work for another. If I were operating a non specialized rig a used rig could have been a better option than building a new glider, unless I didn’t want someone else’s used rig. I prefer to buy new and run something for many years. The per mile cost of operation can still be less than buying used when averaged out over 10-15 year life span.

    Just get a high mount trailer, then you can get a regular tractor. You can still haul 7 and your overweight problems should be over.

    I am in it for the maximum money per mile and in my operation my rig is exactly what is needed. I have no overweight problems. I get paid for what I haul and a 7 car wouldn’t even be in the same ballpark.

    i see more brand new vehicles broke down on the road, then i see old beat up vehicles. js

    Probably not Gliders you are seeing broke down most of the time. I bet if you look real hard you will see a DEF tank on many of the broke down rigs, which is exactly the reason I didn’t buy a new engine.
