I agree with the posters who say to never "swerve" a truck. If someone screws up in front of you, best to hold your lane, and try to slow down. If you hit them, oh well. That poor driver fell 150 ft to his death, because some idiot cut him off.

Schneider just announced all their drivers will go through a remedial training program. They will be taught how to drive up and down inclines safely.

I agree getting a cdl should be harder. I do not agree getting it should take longer. We need a true qualitative approach to training, not quantitative.
I have guys that are good to go after 5 days on the truck.
I have guys that won't be ready after 5 years.
If you mandate so many hours or miles of training, that's what will be done. My cdl school mandated 1,000 miles or driving and 1,000 miles of riding in the right hand seat. The last week my partner was 100 miles shy. We took route "H" which was mainly highway driving. Same number of hours driving, but because it was highway, we got the miles knocked out. Before that we ran the harder routes - lots of turns, traffic and button hooks. Which was better training? -
Your 2 cents means nothing.
You know nothing.

You guys must be roommatesBean Jr. Thanks this. -
I would argue that the quality has remained the same, but the quantity has increased, leading to emerging qualities that would not exisit in a less dense environment. Put one hay bale in field and let it get wet. Chances are it will be fine. Put more hay bales together and the chances of spontaneous combustion increase exponentially.
Blaming this accident on poor training before we know the facts is how we get things like the judgement against Werner from last year.Opus Thanks this. -
This could have happened to any of us... And if you think it couldnt, then your a fool. Bad #### happens, just the way life is. We try to keep the advantages in our favor by being safe, but that is still no guarantee that it wont happen to us.

Oh man, the jumps to conclusions in this thread.
Hey guys? As good as we are, as many precautions as we take? We could die out there just like this guy.
And you're judging this driver because it makes you feel safer. This could never happen to you. I get it.
Hug your loved ones just the same, because there are no guarantees.FlaSwampRat, joshuapowell61, Doealex and 9 others Thank this. -
Could’ve been any one of us. And if it were a shiny Peterbilt nobody would be questioning his experience.

Always elogs and trainees. You guys are as bad as the 4 wheelers who always say truckers are the problem.
Man up. You got 11 hours to drive, if you are unable to fulfill your job and make a decent living in that time, then you are the problem.Long FLD Thanks this.
