I’m a real live person and run multiple businesses and because I absolutely hate the government taking my money, at the top of my list for all my businesses is to find legal ways to minimize the tax responsibility to the government.
In my repair shop ( because it’s a business) I receive multiple 1099s from entities I do business with including many different institutions and municipalities.
Because I am educated and understand how 1099s work I never have had issues.
The key is having the education and understanding of how an actual 1099 works.
One could probably safely say that the op now has a basic understanding of how 1099s work.
He now has so education and will not make the same mistakes again.
This is why education is needed before individuals fall in to the trap.
And for the record I have never in my life received a days unemployment or any other government hand outs.

Unemployment is not a hand out, it is earned as part of an employees wage. You don't work, you don't collect.

You also can't collect unemployment as an independent contractor, even though you are paying into it.

Unemployment is actually a type of insurance paid for by the employer and is much the same as compensation also paid for by the employer.
It is still technically a hand out that people abuse.
I get people coming to me often asking me to sign papers saying I don’t have work to hire them so they can continue to not work and get a check.

Wow. I've been paying unemployment monthly in my little business for the past 10 years without a claim. I've never had anyone approach me
Here in Florida they call it reemployment tax now I've been paying that tax for the past 10 years without a single claim in my little company. I don't think anybody that knows me would come to me asking me to say there wasn't enough work for them because people that know me know I don't mess around when it comes to taxes and regulations. I pay all that s*** electronically every single month. if your one day
late one day with unemployment taxes Florida charges you $50 fee as an employer. The state is a bigger pain in the ### than the IRS

It’s called unemployment insurance in NY as is compensation insurance.
I get those paper signing seekers regularly and I regularly send them packing with papers unsigned.

The Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA), with state unemployment systems, provides for payments of unemployment compensation to workers who have lost their jobs. Most employers pay both a Federal and a stateunemployment tax. ... Only the employer paysFUTA tax; it is not deducted from theemployee's

Yes there are plenty of people that abuse the UC system and the other government programs

That's a fact. fUTA is a very small amount (940 form) based only on a small amount of wages earned by each employee. Thankfully QuickBooks Pro with an assisted payroll subscription males life easy for those tax filings.
