Just found out my debit card had been used yesterday to withdraw money from an ATM in texas.
I haven't been in texas for over a week and I still have my bank card.

I suspect that the owner or trusted employee of an independent truck stop may have used a device to extract my card and pin numbers from their point of sale terminalor ATM.
I can't prove anything yet, but that seems to be the most likely case.
    Beware!

Just call your bank. If you didn’t authorize the transaction you have nothing to worry about. Your bank will reimburse you and go after who ever made the withdraw

Never use any of those small ATM machines anywhere. Never use your PIN for any credit transactions. Use it like it's a credit card.

It's been taken care of, but I'm not the first and probably not the last person that this person or persons have ripped off.

In white county you do not use cards at gas stations. Cash only. They will capture the information and then do a soft test transaction to see if it's good.

The biggest challenge was a walmart cashier attempting to buy a thousand dollars in heavy tools from Michigan, he lacked the complete home address of our cardholder so Michigan contacted that person and understood it's fraud and the bank was already there killed everything and new numbers in 10 minutes and then fire back at the cashier.

My bank is just a warrior. I do have a very special card tied to a account that is 10 cents to zero sitting still. I put cash into it, it is going out on card.

The account is further protected by Credit Laws when I use it as a credit. And also the bank knows the account will absolutely and flat zero if anyone tried to charge say 500 dollars on a stolen number against that .10 cents. It's automatic text to me, turn over everything in 10 minutes and back up with new cards new numbers. And the source of the illegal crime is in danger of being caught.

Here in Arkansas Embezzlers are put into jail as a regular part of trying to fool as cashiers. They just cannot get away with it.

To this day I have NEVER used a stand alone atm machine common in gas stations, convience stores etc. Never used the card at the pump outside. Never etc etc etc.

One time in pre internet, pre cell days in 1991 I took sick above Knoxville at the Mcdonalds there with a big rig. I went missing for 40 hours as I fought the illness fever in the bunk My family was contacted by dispatch and they contacted bank and (No qualcomm) and the bank traced and found me on video pulling 10 dollars for a meal the video made it clear I did not look good so the switched the the Lawman there and I was in the hosptial for half a night while IV medicines eradicated the threat.

They sent me home a week to rest up. Might as well.

Has nothing to do with small independent truck stops. It happened to tens of thousands of people at target just a couple years ago. It happens everyday.

And the employees at a small independent are by no means worse than what Pilot/Flying J or T/A Petro have to offer you. In a lot cases they are better!

I was skimmed, that is the term used, at a gas pump in a small town near Livingston TX. About a week later fraud prevention asked me if I had made 3 purchases of gasoline for $99 each in about 3 hours in Houston TX. I was in Indiana at the time. They rolled the charges back to the gas station who allow the use of cloned cards, because he didn't require a zip code.
The chip is supposed to stop that nonsense, but don't bet on it.

I learned a long time ago to use my debit card as credit instead of debit whenever possible. I also examine any ATM for potential skimming devices. There are some YouTube videos about what to look for. Also, I only ever use an ATM machine at a bank or credit Union. Lastly, I have a GREAT bank (USAA) when it comes to unusual transactions. Even though it has caused me problems at times when I tried to use the card for a legitimate transaction and it was declined. Quick call to my bank, unless they call me first, clears such things up. Worth the effort in my opinion. I don't think avoiding independent truck stops affects your chances of potential card malfeasance. And, in this day and age of credit breaches, may not matter what you do and you can still end up a victim of credit card or debit card theft. Only alternative would be to ONLY use cash for everything. I think being on the road, as most truckers are, using only cash and not even possessing a debit or credit card is virtually impossible.

I quit using my debit cads throughout the country for fear of fraud.

I now use 2 credit cards one with a minimal line of credit the other a bit more for larger purchases in case one of them gets swiped.

If I make a big purchase on one I just pay it down with my online or over the phone payment option.

Keeps my bank cards out of circulation.
