Some states do hunt gators. The problem is there has been many babies.

I recall Maryland near Camp David in the Catocin Mountains once there were more deer eating everything up than there are ever hunters formed as a army to harvest.

Once in a great winter I am privileged to have a little Venison in fried form. It's seriously powerful for what ails you in the cold.

There is gator season here. Gator is pretty good to eat too. While there is a gator season not a whole lot of people partake in it. Gators are everywhere, if there is fresh water you can assume that there is a gator in, I've had one in my pool before even. It's still kinda taboo to hunt or kill them tho, 30 years ago they were almost extinct and the protection kinda stuck. The American alligator is nature's biggest success story when it comes to bouncing back from the edge of extinction. I think that's the main reason that hunting them isn't more popular, that and they will ####ing kill you if they get you first lol. I used to hunt deer when me moved up North and they are harmless, set up in a tree stand and just wait for them to walk past. Alligators on the other hand will leave you completely alone if you are in a boat but the second you go after one they will #### you up and can get up in a boat. Walking around trying to hunt them....nope nope and more nope, they are very curious and will come inspecct what is going on if they hear something. We have a 10' one behind the house that comes and pops his head up everytime you are out on the dock talking just to see what is going on, they don't miss much and I wouldn't want to be stomping around in the swamp tryin to hunt one because if it seems you first you more than likely will be missing a limb.

I always enjoy the occasional story of a tourist being eaten by a gator.

Yup, the toll road that goes from the Naples area out to pompano if I remember correctly. Now do you not only have the Gators there but the swamp is full of gigantic pythons, I'm not sure how dangerous the pythons are but I don't want to find out.

Sounds like the makings of a horror movie: Car with family inside breaks down at night and is surrounded by bloodthirsty alligators.
